Before WWII there where three major religions in Albania. Those where the Muslims with some 70 %, Orthodox Christians with some 20 % and Catholics with about 10 %. After the communist era, in 1990 freedom of religion was reestablished. With support from outside many religious buildings were restored or newly erected. A speciality are the Bektashi, a tolerant ordial of Derwisch with their worldcenter in Tirana. They are a minority between Muslim Sunnits.
