On June 22, the National Research Council Canada — known as the NRC — will permanently discontinue the shortwave broadcasting operations of its offi- cial time signal station, CHU. From that day forward, the familiar frequencies of 3330 kHz, 7850 kHz, and 14,670 kHz will fall silent. For the future, the NRC points matter - of - factly to modern alternatives: the Network Time Protocol (NTP) for com- puters, web-based clocks, and the traditional telephone service. The history of CHU stretches back an astonishingly long way — to an era when radio itself was still in its infancy. It all began in 1923 under the aegis of the Dominion Observatory in Ottawa. The initial experimental broadcasts were transmitted under the call sign 9CC on the longwave band at 275 meters. Anyone who has not yet sent a reception report to Ottawa should make use of the time remaining until June. The NRC has confirmed that valid reports will continue to be acknowledged with the traditional CHU QSL card. Fit- tingly, the card features an image of Sir Sandford Fleming — the Canadian railway engineer and "father of worldwide time zones". Reception reports may be sent via email or, in the classic tradition, via postal mail to: Radio Station CHU, 1200 Montreal Road, Building M-36, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0R6, Canada, North America. If its budget were reduced by approximately one billion Czech crowns, as envisaged in the government's proposed legislation from next year, Czech Television (CT) would have to lay off between 300 and 500 employees. This was stated today at the Digimedia conference by deputy director-general Milan Fridrich. CT currently employs nearly 3,000 people and operates with a budget of 8.5 billion crowns. According to Fridrich, in addition to mass layoffs and the associated se- verance costs, CT would also have to cancel major production projects al- ready underway, including drama productions. This would lead to further expenses in the form of contractual penalties for terminating projects. The 83-page handbook was officially launched during the DRM General Assembly held in Indonesia. The handbook details the practical im- plementation of DRM technology at both the transmitter and receiver ends, as well as the various types of programming services that the technology can support. In its announcement, the DRM Consortium stated: "The scope of this revi- sion exceeded initial plans. In addition to routine updates to technical specifications and the addition of a substantial list of DRM trials and case studies, the 6th edition of the handbook also features in-depth opti- mizations at the technical detail level." The manual includes numerous new examples that provide a detailed intro- duction to DRM multichannel broadcasting technology; it also features case studies on the Amplitude Modulation Signaling System (AMSS), which provi- des service signaling for traditional analog AM broadcasting; and offers a detailed explanation of the Emergency Warning Manager (EWF Manager)—a core component that interfaces with national emergency warning systems to enab- le DRM emergency broadcasting capabilities. Furthermore, the manual discusses the DRM text messaging service (Journa- line), outlining pathways for commercial revenue generation through pre- cise audience targeting, interactive features, and listening data analy- tics. It includes regional solutions adapted to local character sets in various countries, along with reference materials necessary for the deve- lopment and implementation of receivers. There is talk about how people overthrew the sjah shah and how Mujahideen are defending the truth. He said this is Mujahideen Khalq, and not the IRGC. This is what confused him initially. It will from November be led by the current head of EWTN News. The "Fox News amongst the religious broadcasters" as the National Catholic Reporter once called it and reported that the Buenos Aires Pope made a remark about a "deed of the devil". In recent months there had been talk about savings at Vatican Radio ope- rations, with particular mentions of the costly media apparatus. So there could indeed be more to these missing programmes. (Kai Ludwig-D, wor June 2) June 1: today I heard something different on Vatican Radio's shortwave frequencies: At 12.30 UT, heard classical music, not the scheduled Russian program, on 21760 kHz, signal much better than // 17790 kHz. #*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#* HAM RADIO in Friedrichshafen vom 26. bis 28. Juni 2026. Das Messe-Motto in diesem Jahr lautet ueberdies: "Discover the Sky - Amateur Radio meets Astronomy". (DARC Deutschland-Rundspruch 22/2026, June 3) and google_translated HAM RADIO in Friedrichshafen: June 26 to 28, 2026. From June 26 to 28, the time has come again: Europe’s largest amateur radio trade fair—HAM RADIO—will take place at the exhibition grounds in Friedrichshafen, on the shores of Lake Constance. Once again, many thou- sands of visitors are expected. On-site, you can experience a diverse program covering the entire spectrum of amateur radio. The large HAM flea market invites you to browse; vendors offer a chance to discover the latest technological trends; and the extensive "non- commercial" section provides insights into a wide variety of topics. The "Lake Constance Gathering" rounds off the event with a broad selec- tion of lectures. Moreover, this year’s trade fair motto is: "Discover the Sky – Amateur Radio meets Astronomy." This choice is no coincidence, as Messe Friedrichshafen is hosting a new trade fair—ASTRO — for the very first time this year, on Saturday, June 27. The overlaps with amateur radio are obvious — one need only think of Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) communication, satellite radio, or — within the near-Earth environment—meteor scatter. Your admission ticket grants access to both trade fairs. So, look forward to an exciting weekend on Lake Constance ! The DARC looks forward to reuniting with many of its members and friends. We wish you a safe and pleasant journey! (DARC Deutschland-Rundspruch 22/2026, June 3) #*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#* vy73 de Wolfgang DF5SX END
