FINLAND - not GERMANY The idea for RBSK came to me during a fleeting mo-
ment on a late summer night. I wondered,"Why not?" The nostalgic and well-
known frequency of Pori Shortwave Station, 6120 kHz, had been silent for
nearly 10 years.
No one had claimed it, and the opportunity to revive it and share music
with the world was too tempting to resist. As public radio broadcasting ce-
lebrates its 100th anniversary, what could be more exciting than reviving
the legendary 6120 frequency?
The journey began swiftly. Just 12 hours after receiving the official li-
cense from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (which handles
such matters in Finland), I received my first inquiry about the frequency.
Shortly after that, a friend contacted me with a simple question: "Is this
you?"
Within 48 hours, most of the essential groundwork was in place. I even had
some test material to try out. Now, I eagerly awaited the official date
mentioned in the license so that I could begin test broadcasts. At preci-
sely one minute past midnight on June 1st, 2024, the transmitter was acti-
vated, and the first tones resonated through the air!
Things are looking very promising. I've received positive feedback and
greetings from all over Europe regarding the activation of 6120 kHz.
May 1st, 2025 marks a new era - our station is reborn!
After nearly a year of broadcasting with just a HAM transceiver and a ba-
sic multiband antenna, we're proud to announce a major upgrade: a dedica-
ted antenna tuned precisely to 6120?kHz and a professional-grade AM trans-
mitter built for real broadcasting. These were officially launched into
service on May 1st, 2025.
The difference is clear: our audio has gone from narrow 3?kHz "phone-like"
quality to rich, full-range 10?kHz AM sound, complete with professional
pre-processing used by top broadcasters worldwide.
- - Thanks GH for this information correction, I'm not so firm of these
low power amateurish playing ground. I confused these mini services with

JAPAN NHK Radio 2 is to close on 31 March. NHK operates two national AM
stations; it was decided to close Radio 2 in 2021. Radio 2 was specifical-
ly funded as an educational radio station, with language courses and other
educational programmes - like "Junior High School Basic English Level 1 &
2" and "Radio Business English", "Portuguese for Beginners", "Time for Re-
ligion," and "Visual Impairment Navi Radio". NHK has been slowly moving
some of the educational and language programmes from Radio 2 over to NHK's
FM station, and to NHK Radio 1, which will continue on AM, though it'll
get a new name.

USA WRNO New Orleans (Louisiana state) has redesigned its website
(Copyright 2026), but the site offers little new content. The prominent
feature is the web stream, right under the frequency 7505 kHz. However,
there is no information about the shortwave broadcast schedule. For years,
the station's registration with the HFCC.org has been 2200-1600 h UT, but
you'd rather find WRNO active 0200-0500 h in winter and 0100-0400 h in
summer. In January 2026, the station continued its on-off history on 7505
kHz.
There were days when it was off the air, which was also confirmed by Glenn
