If past seasons' behavior holds, this should come on the air daily at nominal *1230- UT but actually 1225- 1235 UT with their infamous 'double-sign-on'. Not yet sure if they are using the same usual recorded content as before for this first half hour, e.g. with Chinese superstar Joker Xue or Singa- porean Tanya Chua (Red High Heels), etc. But the genre sure sounds the same. 6200 kHz Voice of Jinling via Nanning, Nov 12, noted signing on later today than in the past, not sure if the new normal or just an aberration. At first absent and only weak PBS Xizang noted here at 1230 UT on fqy w/strident YL in CC running past 1237 UT when I left it as no sign of Jin- ling. But at 1248 UT recheck found Jinling in progress with usual strong signal. Perhaps s/on this season is to be closer to a nominal *1245- UT? Can also confirm they are using same recorded pgm block for this 'warmup' xmsn segment. Zorba-style mandolin at 1258 UT with OM Chinese anmts and then Tanya Chua 'Red High Heels' 1259 UT leading to usual 1300 UT trium- phant fanfare and OM ID segment. A few weeks ago, we reported on 'Galei Zahal', the Israeli military radio station. We described it as a media anomaly, an almost unique case: a military radio station that is open to the exchange of opinions, includ- ing critical voices against various governments, which often threatened to shut it down. Now this threat seems to be becoming a reality. The defense minister of Netanyahu's government has officially announced a proposal to end 'Galei Zahal's broadcasts. Israeli Defense Minister Katz announced last Wednesday that he will soon submit a proposal to the government to close the Israeli Armed Forces radio station 'Galei Zahal',with the shutdown scheduled for March 1, 2026. Based on the recommendations of a commission that investigated the activi- ties of 'Galei Zahal',the team will work to preserve Gal Galatz, a station that mainly broadcasts music and traffic reports. Operating a civilian radio station under military control is an anomaly that does not exist in any other democratic country. Katz added that since the 1950s, various defense ministers and IDF chiefs of staff have considered closing the station, removing it from the mili- tary framework, privatizing it, or closing its news department. However, none of these processes has been completed. (Leo Spalluto, 'Bande Rumerose' dxpx 16 Nov, A. Nicolae Ionel Ciuca, President of the Senate and presidential candidate of Romania, lives in the immediate vicinity of the famous radio antenna masts built by the RadioCom Saftica center in 1953-1954. These meter- high metal structures are visible from the DN1 highway in the Balotesti- Saftica area. 44 38 14.41 N 26 04 24.27 E location One of the radio masts, the tallest, is located just some 65 meters from Ciuca's villa. According to sources at the G_andul newspaper, the former prime minister is greatly bothered by the presence of this towering mast near his home. For several reasons. Therefore, pressure was exerted on the state-owned company that manages the mast site to decommission and dismantle the five strategically important radio dipole curtain antenna structures. The radio antennas in Saftica (Ilfov), where the shortwave radio trans- mitter of the same name is located, belong to RadioCom - the National Radio Communications Corporation - and are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization (formerly the Ministry of Communications). The transmission center and the curtain antennas have been used for both strategic purposes and broadcasting over the decades since 1955. For about in 2002 to 2017 years, several elegant villas have been built in Saftica in the immediate vicinity of this broadcasting center and its antennas on various streets. Many residents find the metal structures, erected in 1953-1954 and designed by Soviet suppliers, unsightly, parti- cularly due to their appearance. Official sources say: "The antennas in Saftica are not dangerous." RadioCom has been repeatedly pressured by local residents to dismantle the radio curtain antenna. New property owners in the area have demanded that RadioCom demolish or dismantle the support structure for the satellite dishes in Saftica. They argued that the structures posed a danger to the environment. "On behalf of the company, on-site inspections were carried out by the technical department. These inspections determined that the metal structures did not exhibit a dangerous level of corrosion, so the satellite antennas must be dismantled," administrative sources told G_andul. On the other hand, the same sources stated that the radio antennas in RadioCom Saftica soil were of strategic importance and that the state could be forced to reactivate them for shortwave broadcasting at any time. This is particularly relevant in the context of the war between Russia and Ukraine now on Romania's eastern border. {...} These antennas have been out of service for *50 years, are rusted, and pose a real danger.
