As reported by the press service of AzTV, the editorial staff will temporarily continue to work in the building of the Azerbaijan Tele- vision. (Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and wor Sept 14 - 15) CSSR/GDR - history - Questions about RADIO VLTAVA in Aug 1968 - Febr 1969 Hello radio friends, My next talk at the Reading International Radio Group (on 18 Oct) will, as usual, be on a historical subject. This time I've chosen to talk about the not-very-clandestine station 'Radio Vltava' which was active after the invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968. I'll accompany the talk with an online article for everyone to read. Most articles currently available online about 'Radio Vltava' are either in German or Czech language, and I'd like to write one in English. Also, I'd like to base my article on documentary evidence, rather than specula- tion, and to fact-check as much as I can. For example, I will mention the dubious claim that some of Vltava's transmissions came from Karl-Marx- Stadt-GDR but explain that there is no evidence this was the case. On the other hand, there is confirmed documentary evidence that Vltava was transmitted, for a few days at least, via Leipzig Wiederau 1322 kHz, which usually relayed Radio Moscow - European sce. I have a few questions that I hope someone might be able to help me with: - Radio Vltava's main frequency was 1430 kHz, from the Wilsdruff trans- mitter near Dresden. Before 21 August 1968, 1430 kHz was used by 'Radio Berlin International'. But which site did RBI 1430 kHz use ? Was it from Halle-Bernburg installation ? {sic, never - insufficient local antenna pattern of 20 kW only, ed.}, as suggested by this website - - or from Berlin-Koepenick (which seems more likely), or from elsewhere? - Can anyone point to recordings online of Radio Vltava ? There seems to be very little available. One of the few recordings (but which is now longer available) was misleading as it edited together an announcement from RBI in Czech/Slovak with one from Vltava. One problem with searching for recordings is that Radio Vltava is of course the name of one of Czech Radio's current stations. Thanks ! Chris - (Chris Greenway-UK, BrDXC-UK iogroups news via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Sep 19) Dear Chris, It's a pity - my good old friend Noel Green of Blackpool-UK of nearly 5 decades - also on DSWCI since early 60ties on duty, - is'nt anymore. See our correspondence of 2004 year Of 2004 archive: 1323 Wachenbrunn {sic, erected much later in August 1988 year then, wb.} - One of the better recollections of 1322(3) [via Leipzig Wiederau site] was when it was used to broadcast 'Radio Vltava' during the Czech "upris- ing". I believe I still have a reel-to-reel tape of it somewhere, as well as of the "real" Radio Prague and other unknown Czech broadcasters. (Noel R. Green-UK, BC-DX groups Sept 11, 2004 year) Hi Noel, would be very nice to have a mp3 or Real Player file of this 'dx diamond'... (wb) I've found Vltava 1322 kHz (at 2359 GMT on Aug. 24 1968) on tape - and others I wrote down as Free Legal Czech Radio on 7080 kHz at 2215 GMT, 7345 kHz at 2230 GMT, 1286 kHz at 2330 & 2336 GMT with speech of Jiri Hajek to UN), 1115 kHz at 2342 GMT relaying BBC/VOA, 1286 kHz (R. Pilsen ?) and 953 kHz, as well as 'Free Radio Prague' 5930 kHz in German at 1624 GMT and English 1805 GMT. All were noted as recorded on Aug. 23, 24 & 25 in 1968. Now, all I have to do is find a way to put them into the computer, hi ! I have several cords but none seem to match what I need to connect. So I think I should consult with the PC people for their advice on what I need to do. My reel-to-reel only has DIN (5 connections) in/output, but the cassette has DIN (also 5 connections) and twin wire plugs. These are different type to what those on the computer. (Noel R. From 1 January 2016, France Bleu Elsass will be broadcast digitally, and will cease to broadcast on medium wave. Status and projects. The director of France Bleu Alsace Emmanuel Delattre immediately reassures: France Bleu Alsace continues to issue and profile will not move. But instead of being broadcast on MW, it will be seen on the digital: that is to say over fixed Internet, on application to listen on all laptops and tablet or a Radioweb connected to a livebox. France Bleu Alsace, who has 85 years on November 11, will not change its programs and will even amplify says Emmanuel Delattre. The man understands that there will be for older fans of the radio listeners a difficulty to go on digital, "we will push them to go, he insists. For Christmas, we will launch a Radioweb operation. We populariserons as possible the opera- tion to bring all the listeners to follow us on digital ". Remodeling is national. On 1 January 2016, all average waves disappear for all of Radio France. This fact explains Mr. Delattre, part of the objec- tives and resources contract which commits Radio France on the 2015-2019 period. The contract is signed with the state. This technique is changing in the direction as an opportunity to open up to a wider audience, to involve the younger generation to participate in education in Alsatian language. Emmanuel Delattre insists nothing will disappear in content. Transmission operations on 3985 kHz will also cease at the turn of the year. Continued operation of 6085 is currently being examined. Background: Most shortwave licenses in Germany will expire on December 31, 2025. Connection allocations are possible, but entail significantly higher costs (previously €1,500 for 10 years, in the future €4,000 for 10 years). Since there are fewer and fewer shortwave licenses in Germany, the annual EMC contributions will also rise significantly, as the Federal Network Agency (BnetzA) allocates the total costs to all active allocations. Without {US Lampertheim installation and a thinned-out Media Broadcast MBR Nauen schedule, this means: a significant additional burden for the remaining shortwave broadcasters. Furthermore, there is a new VVRuFu (Federal Association of Shortwave Broadcasters), which has different media law requirements than 10 years ago. And honestly: shortwave is really "over" in our latitudes. Except for the ego of individuals: zero relevance. Neither in disaster relief nor as a terrestrial radio broadcasting method. If I look at the number of RRs that are still coming in, 95% are remotely heard "via Enschede Twente SDR." Come on, then listen to the webstream right away. It was a wonderful time, combined with a certain pride in having opened up the market to smaller players, even though the excesses were and still are often questionable. I heard this news before, but I guess it was unevitiable somehow. Lack of response from listeners, just some of them requesting QSLs and don't care about programm- ing. Same with us as most listeners seem not to be interested in any con- tent of our own shows. Just feedback to our relay stations - guess because of the QSLs. However, we will at least continue until 2028 year. HFCC/CZECH REPUBLIC Shortwave still connects the world: HFCC Conference returned to Prague_CZE. Despite the fact that most media are moving their content to the digital space, shortwave broadcasting remains an important pillar of global com- munication, although not as visible as it was in the past. This week, Prague is hosting the HFCC (High Frequency Coordination Conference), a conference bringing together shortwave broadcasting experts from around the world. Radio Prague International, the international broadcaster of Czech Radio, acted as a media partner for the conference. "Shortwaves continue to be of great importance. In crisis areas, in coun- tries with limited access to the internet, or where media freedom is under threat, shortwaves are often the only way to stay connected to the world," says Jeff White, Chairman of the HFCC and founder of Radio Miami Interna- tional. Beyond the Earth being Flat? (Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, wor & hcdx Sept 5) USA 17790 kHz Sept 15 at 04.17 UT, surprised to find strong S=9+30dB gospel huxter in English with British accent. This is the WRMI-7 frequency for R. Africa Network supposedly only 15.00-22.00 UT on 160 degree beam for SoAmerica. 17790 kHz had been extended before at least until 24.00 UT for Classic Redneck Radio. Now it's the SSOB over a totally night path, strong but considerable fad- ing, slightly stronger than RNZI 17675 kHz at S=9+10/20dB. 04.27 UT pro- gram close with partial website, time.net? 04.28 UT ID as "Voice of the Martyrs Radio", about Islam, vomradio.net; and then "Radio N-N" or M-M?? by PanAm Broadcasting, , or 04.30 UT 'Truth for Life' [otherwise I'm busy chasing TA JBA MW carriers on the R75, but this is easy on the PL-660]. 04.55 UT now I'm on the NRD-545 during 'Mission Network News' about Christianizing Syrians. 04.59 UT plugs Trans World Radio, music, Radio Pan-AM ID but *no* WRMI ID at TOH ! Another check at 05.59UT, R. PanAm, two notes, no WRMI ID and cut to OC/DA which stays on for quite a while. Still there at 06.14 UT as I have a carrier tone offtuned in USB. By 06.32 UT it's a JBA carrier, so now something else? Possibly the earlier strong signal was a sporadic E anomaly. I asked Jeff White {at WRMI Miami-FL} : "PanAm 17790 kHz in the night; Jeff, Am hearing PanAm on 17790 kHz before and after 05 UT - no WRMI ID on the hour. But I guess it must be, not on your schedule at night. VG signal, better than NZ 17675 kHz, and much better than your 15770 kHz. What gives? Is this still on the 160 antenna, or what ? What are the total hours now? 73, Glenn, OK like 315 degrees" - no reply as Jeff apparently does not welcome such probing questions? Maybe on F_B ? Nothing recent there about this. It's conceivable that 17790 kHz at +0400-0600* UT is via some other less nightful site than WRMI. Who knows? Note this programming IDs as Radio PanAm, which is not the same as 'Radio Africa Network'. I finally found this sked which does not mention SW, but repeats every four hours, starting with 8 am-noon, Pacific Standard [sic!] Time: This more or less correlates with what I was hearing. If there is any mention of 17790kHz, any SW frequency, or WRMI anywhere on their websites, I haven't found it. 17790 kHz, next check at 14.49 UT Sept 15, JBA carrier and the SSOB/OSOB except for 17815 kHz Turkey. That's probably Vatican radio to SoAsia/ME at 14.30-16.00 UT, scheduled to overlap WRMI/RAN for an hour, a collision / share HFCCers are apparently cool with. (WRTH; and English translate: ) WRTHandbook in the future? An important message to the WRTH community. Dear friends of WRTH, With the upcoming publication of the 80th edition of the World Radio TV Handbook (WRTH 2026), we are facing a moment of celebration and change. For eight decades, WRTH has been a constant companion to radio listeners, broadcasters, and enthusiasts worldwide. We know that many of you value the annual publication of the printed book, and therefore we share the following news with great care and consideration. The final printed edition. WRTH 2026 will be the last edition to appear in print. Following this significant 80th edition, WRTH will be fully transitioning to digital formats – our regularly updated web app and the biannual e-book (winter and summer programs). This decision was not made lightly. The print WRTH is part of our community's identity, and we recognize the significance of its end. Why this change is necessary ... In recent years, the costs of producing the print WRTH have risen sharply. Printing, paper, customs, shipping, and logistics have become increasingly expensive and difficult to manage. Despite our efforts to offset these costs, it is no longer feasible to continue publishing the print edition annually. For WRTH to survive as a publication and continue to serve the global broadcasting community, we must adapt. (WRTH) An Important Message to the WRTH Community. Dear Friends of WRTH, As we approach the publication of the 80th edition of the World Radio TV Handbook (WRTH 2026), we find ourselves at both a moment of celebration and of change. For eight decades, WRTH has been a constant companion to radio listeners, broadcasters, and enthusiasts worldwide. We know that many of you treasure the annual arrival of the printed book, and it is with great care and reflection that we share the following news. The Final Printed Edition. WRTH 2026 will be the last edition to appear in print. After this milestone 80th edition, WRTH will move entirely to digital formats-our regularly up- dated Web App and the twice-yearly E-book (Winter and Summer schedules). This is not a decision we have taken lightly. The printed WRTH has been part of the identity of our community, and we understand what it means to see it come to a close. Why This Change Is Necessary. Over the past years, the costs of producing WRTH in print have risen sharply. Printing, paper, tariffs, shipping, and logistics have all become increasingly expensive and difficult to manage. Despite our best efforts to absorb these pressures, continuing to publish in print on a yearly basis is no longer sustainable. In order for WRTH to survive as a publica- tion, and continue serving the global broadcasting community,we must adapt. Pre-Order Only: A Collector's Edition. The WRTH 2026 printed book will be available exclusively through pre- order, with delivery scheduled for December 2025. There will be no launch stock or reprints. Once pre-orders close, the book will not be available again. This makes WRTH 2026 a true collector's edition-our final tribute in print to 80 years of The World's Most Comprehensive and Up-to-DateGuide to Broadcasting. Pre-orders will open on Wednesday, September 24, 2025,and close on Friday, October 31, 2025. Please watch our communication channels for the official announcement, and subscribe to our newsletter to always stay up-to-date: (Newsletter from WRTH.org; via Anatoly Klepov-RUS, RUSdx #1360 via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Sept 21) Universal Radio Notice: 2026 WRTH & Klingenfuss handbooks. Notice: 2026 WRTH & Klingenfuss. Universal Radio will not be carrying the 2026 editions of the 'World Radio TV Handbook' and Klingenfuss publications. We appreciate the customer support of those who have purchased these pub- lications from Universal for the past 42 years. Increasing import costs, tariffs and other considerations no longer make this practical. The 2026 WRTH will be the last print version of the book and will be avai- lable exclusively by pre-order from Radio Data Center GmbH. The 2026 Klingenfuss Pubications will be available from Klingenfuss Publications GmbH, Tuebingen Hagelloch Germany.
