On-air chat with Ramon Sanchez and Jean-Marc Printz. Ramon Sanchez was a sound engineer at Radio-Andorra from 1970 to 1981, and even during the station's brief attempt to return in 1983. Brought to- gether by IA in the former Radio-Andorra studio with Jean-Marc Printz, he shares his memories and career and also introduces us to his secret world, which occupied him even while working at RadioAndorra. A music enthusiast, he brings his records, which range from the 1950s to the present day, and introduces us to some rather confidential gems as well as major hits that are part of our collective global memory.A 3-hour show, with a unique pro- duction, will be broadcast on the usual channels on Sunday July 6th at 6 p.m [CEST 1600 UTC] - Shortwave 6005 kHz (and replayed at 9 p.m.CEST on 3985 kHz [1900 UTC] - Mixcloud - Website: - YouTube: As usual, a chat will be open on YouTube during the broadcast, and the podcast will remain online on YouTube and Mixcloud. According to news reports in Azerbaijan, the country's Interior Ministry has raided Sputnik office in Baku where seven people were detained. The Ministry had launched an investigation following the cancellation of Sput- nik's accreditation in February 2025. Other media reports say that the executive director and editor-in-chief have been jailed for four months within 24 hours of the raid. The Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov suggested in a statement before the jail terms were announced that: "We expect that in the very near future in the course of direct contacts with the Azerbaijani side we will be able to achieve their release." This case is an unusual deterioration in relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. Founded in 1956, for many decades, DSWCI was arguably the most international listening community in the world, with members and readers from dozens of countries on all continents. Unfortunately, the association was dissolved at the end of 2016, but the website remained accessible until the beginning of 2025, when it was shut down. For nearly 50 years, TWR has been evangelizing and teaching the Bible to vast swaths of Asia through its powerful shortwave station in Guam. It is impossible to measure the impact KTWR has had on lives in China, North Korea, India, Myanmar, Vietnam and other countries in the region from the material world. As valuable as the Guam station is to the TWR ministry, we have faced many challenges there in recent years, from the high cost of living on the is- land, to the overwhelming workload of an overstretched staff, to the con- stant wear and tear of equipment. Another pressing issue concerns our aging transmitters, which are increasingly susceptible to unexpected, ca- tastrophic failure. We do not believe that raising funds to replace this expensive equipment is a wise stewardship of resources needed in other areas of ministry. After months of intense prayer, study and discussion, TWR leadership has unanimously decided to wind down operations and cease broadcasting in Guam by October 31, 2025. It is important to emphasize two important points regarding this difficult but necessary course of action. The decision to discontinue TWR shortwave broadcasts from Guam was made to maintain the sustainability of the operation and not to change the mission in any way. TWR is committed to reaching our listeners in Asia, many of whom depend on our biblical programming for evangelism, encouragement and discipleship. We have initiated processes to migrate 100% of our shortwave broadcasts to other outlets in the region, including friends of Reach Beyond Australia and Far East Broadcasting Co. (FEBC), as well as commercial providers. We will also be looking at other platforms, including FM, AM and digital streaming. Listeners will be advised where they can find our programming well in advance of the migration. The faithful staff of TWR in Guam have worked heroically to keep the power on, the antennas working, and the broadcasts on the air during challenging times. We will do everything we can to be there for them as they implement the station's closure and begin to consider their next steps in God's plan for their lives. These staff will continue to work as broadcasts continue through October, and the work of decommissioning the station will take many months after that. To some, it may seem like TWR is taking a step back. Instead, we are pi- voting to make the most of the resources God has given us. We remember that our mission is ultimately not about towers and transmitters; it is about reaching the world with Christ through the media so that eternal fruit will be produced. Could you pray for our departure from Guam in the coming months and espe- cially for the team members on Guam who have put so much of themselves into this work ? We are certainly in a time of change at TWR, and change can be difficult. But we remember the most important reality that will not change. As Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever." Radju Marija Malta officially began broadcast- ing on May 31, 1995, from modest beginnings ? Just two small rooms at the Dominican Fathers' Convent in Rabat ? as a community radio station known then as Radio 106. A pivotal milestone was reached on May 5, 1998, when Radio 106 joined the World Family of Radio Maria (WFRM), becoming the fifth station worldwide to adopt the name Radju Marija. The formation of the Asso?jazzjoni Radju Marija Malta(ARM) soon followed, leading to steady growth in both outreach and operations. A major turning point came on June17 that year, when Radju Marija Malta was granted a national broadcasting licence, allowing it to move to 102.3FM and reach listeners across Malta and Gozo. As the station expanded, so did the need for more adequate facilities. Under the circum- stances, couldn't they have spared another minute or two? One was there just now (0320 UT) between 11920-11930 kHz, and 12060-12070 kHz at 0321 UT. I'm positive nothing to do with ENC Woofferton. I know there were a few of us really looking forward to DRM mode transmission from the UK into North America. Sigh!!! This part of 25 meters seems to be owned by OTHR. Plenty of those intermittent pulses present above and below 11960 kHz. Walt" Salmaniw, BC. "Problems at ENC Woofferton 11960kHz. Yes, those little blips are all over the show these days and nothing to do with broadcast DRM, though some si- milar sort of digital messaging system. On 11960 kHz I've seen DRM attempt to start up at 03:00 & 03:13 UT but without success. A couple of brief signs of an AM carrier too. I think ENC Woofferton has a flat battery in the DRM transmitter starter motor ?? Cheers, Chris" Mackerell, NZ "Tony, your call worked, as there they are suddenly. Nice decode into Masset-BC-CAN with occasional drop outs. Walt" "Looks like things are perking now. Nice signal here in BC. Tony" "Pretty awful parameters they're using though: 11.64k AAC?? Music deserves a better bit rate and AAC+ or xHE-AAC encoding. The up-side is I'm getting 100% decoding here in New Zealand. Cheers, Chris" "At 0340 UT, not so great into Masset-BC-CAN. Too many drop-outs and stut- tering noted on my KiwiSDR. Tried multiple antennas, and none are giving 100% decode. I do find the edges of the DRM signal strange; instead of a solid vertical line down 11955 and 11965 kHz, it's more of a tooth-comb look, perhaps degrading the signal. Normally, Woofferton should blast into Masset, even with 80 kW DRM! Walt" "Received this response from ENC Woofferton: "we had a fault with the transmitter at the start of the programme and I was unable to recover it. I had to call out an engineer to attend site to restore this by making a manual switch at the site. We got the service up at 03:33 UTC, but that means we lost the first half of the programme. Everything was tested be- fore and was working, so we need to investigate why this happened". Tony "Unfortunately now, the signal is too weak to decode (SNR on screen stat- ing 4.7 dB), so no audio (0352 UT), besides occasional stuttering. Walt (Masset-BC-CAN)" Chris Mackerell in NZ decoded the SWRGs, two circular images look like 45 record labels. From Jonathan Coles: "Signal on 11960 kHz started late, about 0333 UT, but was quite strong into Ottawa. Dream software reported SNR of 24dB, slowly sinking to 14dB by the end of the program. No audible drop outs. Audio bandwidth with mono aac 11.64kbps was barely 4 kHz, arguably not quite as good as good AM reception. Could we not have 10 kHz, even 8 kHz bw or stereo to demonstrate DRM's potential for superior audio? Broadcasters shouldn't sell DRM short. Thanks to Tony Pavick for putting on both Canada Day specials, but espe- cially for this DRM broadcast. We need more DRM transmissions to North America. My setup is an AirspyHF+ with outdoor loop-on-ground antenna, gqrx v2.17.7 receiving software, piping the Raw I/Q output to Dream Radio v2.3" Later, Tony Pavick reports: "Re: Problems at ENC Woofferton 11960 kHz, In light of the problem with our DRM broadcast from Woofferton, they have offered me a repeat broadcast. Therefore I'm looking at doing the repeat at 0300 UT on UT Sunday {July 6}. That would be 11:00 PM Saturday on the East Coast US. This was the further response from Encompass: "Unfortunately, transmitter S91 failed to tune at the start of the trans- mission and tripped out with an HT fault. The Control Room operator in London attempted to remotely reset and command a re-tune the transmitter, but this failed resulting in transmitter lockout. The operator called out the standby engineer, who went to the site and brought up a cover trans- mitter (S92) from 03:33 UTC." Overall I do feel it was an interesting experiment. Page # 86: On 20th April 1928 the Post Office gave it's approval (to the regional scheme using high power transmitters in five locations) and the construction of the first of the twin transmitter stations was started at once. The BBC 1931 Yearbook makes no mention of the BBC deciding to call the station Moorside Edge rather than Slaithwaite because of the different pronounciations of its name. To them it was the North Regional Transmitt- ing Station The Yorkshire Post says the correct pronounciation is Slow-it and explains why. I was born in Honley 3 miles from Huddersfield and knew the correct pronounciation. I decided to scrolled on at this point to see if any sources were quoted and heard near the end. "The BBC is planning to close all of it's medium wave transmitters in the next 12 months". This is untrue. No sources for the information given were given at the end of the video just a request for donations and a long list of those who have done so. Just scrolled down the Yorkshire Post article and seen it also has the correct pronounciation of Sleights where my parents moved to in 1962 when I was 11. Hi Chris, Thanks for coming back. I can confirm that your piece will be a superb reference point for my part three. Now a question for all. I was on Nights at Brookmans Park in the late 70's. There were serious pay problems in the BBC and a strike was called. I woke up as usual at home at 1600 and my wife said that all had changed on the BBC outputs. ISTR that there was a caption on BBC 1 saying it was off-air and the most profound thing for me was that I did not appear to be on my second night shift as the only AM service that was radiating was 200 kHz from Droitwich (and possibly not Westerglen and Burghead) with all BP services off air due to the major staff Union call to strike. The presenter on the special named (can't remember the name) service was Dave (Kid) Jensen on what was supposedly possibly the "National Broadcasting Service" During the evening I received a phone call to say that the stoppage had been resolved and that it was business as usual from midnight. I went in at 2345 to find the Engineer in Charge and his Asst manning the off-air site. Two of us took over and crash-started the 908 kHz or 909 (see later) kHz service at 0001 GMT on to programme as though nothing had happened and the usual programme which could have been Radio 2 then if after 23/ Nov /78 or R4 if before that date. We must have then put the rest back on the air 1458 kHz and 1215 kHz and 1089 kHz if after 23/Nov or 1214, 1457 kHz if before 23/Nov. The question is what was the date of this debarcle? Can anybody recall ? Was it part of "The Winter of Discontent"? Was there not also something about this time concerning a unscheduled transmission of Faulty Towers that was used to "fill-in" missing pro- gramme? That may nail the date ?? On June 30, the Cantonese HP of Radio Free Asia ended its further renewal. The last farewell message to the listeners was as follows; Dear viewers, listeners, and readers: All good things must come to an end. Today, we must officially say fare- well to you. The journey of the Cantonese-language team at Radio Free Asia is about to a close. Over the past 27 years, we have accomplished our mis- sion, bringing the most accurate and timely news and in-depth reporting to Hong Kong and the global Chinese community. Regardless of the challenges we faced, we have always believed that the door to freedom of speech must remain open for everyone seeking the truth. With the end of US government support, the RFA team will further reduce its operations. The Cantonese team will cease updating news content starting tomorrow (the 28th anniversary of Hong Kong's handover), and the remaining news online will become the part of history and will be preserved for long term. Radio Free Asia was officially established in 1996,and two years later, in 1998—the year following Hong Kong's handover—the Cantonese-language team was established, with its initial target audience being the Cantonese- speaking communities in South China and around the world. In 2019 Hong Kong's press freedom faced unprecedented oppression, the Cantonese- language team allocated more resources to serve Hong Kong residents. In 2024, RFA withdrew from Hong Kong but continued to invest resources in reporting on the situation in Hong Kong. Since 2019, the number of audiences from Hong Kong has significantly in- creased, demonstrating Hong Kong residents' strong desire for uncensored news information and objective analysis. With the disappearance of "Apple Daily"," Stand News", and "Citizen News", coupled with self-censorship be- coming commonplace in Hong Kong's mainstream media, the Cantonese-language section of Radio Free Asia has become one of the news media outlets that Hong Kong people rely on. Given the growing importance of the Cantonese team to Hong Kong residents, the core team has recruited younger and locally born Hong Kong journa- lists. As a result, we began planning to rename the team "Radio Free Asia Hong Kong Team RFA HK" last year. However, the plan was derailed at the final decision stage due to the termination of US Government's funding. - The original page (in Cantonese) is at By the way HPs in Chinese, English, Cambodian, and Korean are being con- tinued. Some of the stories that have caught our attention. RFE/RL journalists - one released as another imprisoned. Ukrainian Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) journalist Vladyslav Yesypenko has been released from Russian custody in occupied Crimea. RFE/RL President and CEO Stephen Capus said: "For more than four years, Vlad was arbitrarily punished for a crime he did not commit. He paid too high of a price for reporting the truth about what was taking place inside Russia-occupied Crimea. For that, he was tortured, physically and psycho- logically. While we celebrate his joyous reunion with his wife Kateryna, and their young daughter Stefania, we cannot overlook this family's pain at the hands of Russian authorities. However, at almost the same time as Vlad's release, an Azerbaijani court convicted and sentenced Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty RFE/RL journalist and economist Farid Mehralizada to nine years in prison on spurious char- ges on 20 June 2025. In a speech before the court, Farid defended his innocence and the impor- tance of a free press in Azerbaijan: "Independent media is one of the greatest means of service to the state, the nation, and humanity. Un- fortunately, journalism in our country today is almost equated with ter- rorism." Farid has been detained since May 30, 2024, when he was violently abducted in Baku by unidentified men and taken to a police station. He was initial- ly charged with "conspiring to smuggle foreign currency" in connection with a case authorities brought against the independent media outlet Abzas Media, for which Farid never worked. Papst Leo XIV. nutzte Fronleichnam (19.
