School will take place August 5 - 14, 2025. This year's school will focus

AUSTRALIA 11875 'Reach Beyond Australia' via Kununnurra bcast center,
March 29; excellent signal during extended slot for Bhutan, ending Dzongka
at 1215UT and starting segment in Tslangla. Pleasant melodic choral harmo-
nies. I wonder if this content is created in a remote studio in Bhutan, or
outside the Kingdom.
I have inquired of RBA in the past and they are fairly secretive about
studio locations for certain countries like Myanmar, for the sake of pro-
ducer safety ... but this list suprisingly also includes Bhutan.

11780 kHz this evening in preparation for tomorrow's inaugural broadcast
of "Servico Internacional de Radio"

here in New Brunswick-CAN around 01:45 UT using my indoor equipment and
getting about an S=9+10dB signal. So, if conditions hold up, should be
good to go tomorrow. Might even use my portable external set-up.
At 02:00 UT, they started the Radio Nacional Sunday evening program "Jazz
Livre!" Very nice. Sounded like they IDed it as "This is Jazz Livre!"
Too bad the transmitter went off at about 02:04 UT. I switched over to the
great sounding Internet stream

to continue listening for a little bit. It's on a bit late for me so might
start recording it. But I see the program originates with Radio MEC FM and

Hello radio friends, Yes, there is a interview in English with the Culture
minister on Radio Nacional Amazonia that started at 0150 UTC. Great signal
on 11780 kHz into Montreal, using portable Tecsun S-2200x on telescopic.

Re: Brazil English. And an excellent signal into NewBrunswick on Canada's
east coast. The English segment seemed a bit shorter than five minutes and
will get an exact timing from my recordings.It was preceded by the program
"Eu de Ca, Voce de La" (I from Here, You from There) and the International
Service in English and Spanish was mentioned at the end of the program.
The program is described on the Radio Nacional website (translated to Eng-
lish) as:
"A conversation with the listener: with stories of the day to day,reports,
notes about public utility and exchange of messages, in addition to the
musical selection specially prepared to accompany the night of those who
like popular music."
Perhaps if we write in with appreciation of the new International Service,
we'll get a mention.In any case, we should send reception reports with po-
sitive comments about the program content. Sign off was at 02:07 UT. If
they have enough listeners, perhaps they could extend the International
Service to a full multi-lingual hour starting at 02:00 with sign-off at
03:00. Good for North America but not so much for Europe.

Re: Brazil English. As usual, the signal strength was a full 5 here near
Seattle. The interview that was first translated into English, then in
Spanish, was with the culture minister of the Para state, which is hosting
the COP30 international environmental conference this coming November.
It's just five minutes of English, but it's great to hear on this station.
I have fond memories of their English broadcasts back in the 1980s !

Event is a historic opportunity for Brazil to reaffirm its role in cli-
mate change negotiations and global sustainability. The conference will
address important issues such as energy transition and climate financing.

Re: Brazil English. 6180- kHz April 1 at 0147 UT, too weak and off-fre-
quency, so to 11780 kHZ for much-publicized new English & Spanish segments
from RNA. S=8+5/25dB direct with deep fading. It's already in Spanish, ap-
parently a saludos call from someone about the Spanish about to start.
Brazuguese DJ replies and says good-night. 0148UT YL ID in English, inter-
view with someone in Para in November, about the culture of Para and Ama-
zonia. Voice-over translation, with PP QRM in the background ! Please, SW
reception is hard enough without self-QRM. We'll trust you to be translat-
ing accurately ! Besides, even a native could not follow the underspeech,
just loud enough to be annoying.
0153 UT ID as Radio Nacional Brasil International Service, Portuguese ID,
Spanish, apparently same topic, voice-over this time in Spanish with Bra-
lian accent. 0157 UT pause for a few words of unobstructed Brazuguese, and
wrapup. 0157 UT Portuguese ID as RNB Servico Internacional, and RNA on
6180 kHz, 11780 kHz, website, 980. 0158 UT R Nacional jingle and other mu-
sic until 0200UT some other Port program. Well, we're glad they are making
the effort to speak a bit of our language, but hope it improves.

CZECH REPUBLIC Country radio is shutting down its medium-wave broadcasts
on 639 kHz from Liblice near Cesky Brod on March 31. The tallest building
in the Czech Republic may cease to exist. After two years of operation,
'Country Radio'will leave the medium-wave transmitter to which the station
has moved due to the demolition of the transmitter in Zbraslav,where Ceske
Radio-komunikace will build the largest data center in Central and Eastern
Europe.
The station's operator, Radio United, has already notified the Radio and
Television Council (RRTV) of its intention to stop broadcasting from
Liblice on March 31.
As Martin Hroch, CEO of Radio United, confirmed to Mediar, Country Radio
will continue to broadcast from another medium-wave transmitter in Ceske

GERMANY Frequenzmess-Wettbewerb fruehen Karfreitag 2025.
Einige Dutzend Hertz Frequenzgenauigkeit genuegt fuer normalen Amateur-
funkbetrieb voellig. Aber es kann Spass machen, die eigene Ausruestung
ueber das Noetige hinaus einmal auszureizen und zu schauen, was geht.
Diesen Spass bietet der "FMT", der "Frequency Measurement Test". Der funk-
tioniert so, dass ein Funkamateur eine Minute lang einen Traeger praezise
bekannter Frequenz sendet. Wer mitmachen will, empfaengt dieses Signal und
versucht, mit den eigenen Mitteln die Frequenz moeglichst genau zu bestim-
men.
So ein FMT findet ueblicherweise zweimal im Jahr statt, jeweils im April
und im November; das naechste Mal Karfreitag, 18. April, 2025. Der FMT
wird von der ARRL veranstaltet und richtet sich hauptsaechlich an nord-
amerikanische Funkamateure. Gesendet wird auf 40mb und auf 80mb. Die Uhr-
zeit ist bequem gewaehlt fuer Nordamerikaner: Eine knappe Stunde ab 02:30
UTC, also ab halb fuenf Uhr morgens unserer Zeit. Immerhin haben wir dann
eine gute Chance, dass die Signale auch bei uns zu hoeren sind. Wem die

LITHUANIA Radio Liberty may stop broadcasting on MW from mid-April
Andrey Shary, ex-director of Radio Liberty's Russian service (though he
still works with that service), has commented on the current state of
affairs.
"Even short-term prospects remain vague; planning horizons have been
greatly reduced; we are forced to contract, primarily in terms of money,
to look for much more economical ways of working. So far, nothing has been
closed and no one has been fired, but many things have had to be put on
hold. Some popular projects of the Russian Service have been suspended or
are being suspended [...]. Evening radio relays on medium waves may cease
from mid-April. Other reductions are also quite possible."

LUXEMBOURG According to Radio Magazine, Radio Onda, a "spirit radio"
station broadcasting from studios in the Belgian capital Brussels,has been
granted a license for four shortwave frequencies in Luxembourg. This
amounts to one kilowatt on 6140 kHz and 100 watts on 9530, 15190 and
25850 kHz, respectively.
The licenses are issued for ten years and expire on the last day of De-
cember 2035. It is currently unclear when exactly Radio Onda will be able
to go on air from Luxembourg. The idea is that the new facility will re-
place the transmitter currently located at a station in the Netherlands.

MADAGASCAR The BBCWS evening beam to SoEaAsia was moved two hours later
to 12-14 UT, and is on 21565 kHz via Madagascar for the A-25 season.
A check of the BBCWS frequencies around 1320UT March 31 had apparent jamm-
ing on both 15295 and 11870 kHz,while 21565 kHz was in the clear, as heard
on a Kiwi SDR near Perth, Australia.
Forgot to add that for North American listeners looking for a good BBCWS
frequency: The transmission for East Africa 04-05UT on 12095 kHz via Mada-
gascar is back for A-25 season. This has provided the best reception of
BBCWS for me in Houston TX-USA the past few years.

Good reception of BBCWS London on 21565kHz via ENC Encompass Digital Media
Services FMO organized via MGLOB Talata Volonondry Madagascar relay faci-
lity. Despite the current poor propagation condition, I currently at
1225 UTC getting very good reception in southeastern US of BBCWS on
21565 kHz, directed to Southeast Asia from 1200-1400 UTC. It is the only
audible signal here on 13mband, where RFI French is usually heard (but not
today) between 1200-1300 UT.
No sign of concurrent BBCWS South Asia frequencies of 15295 and 17790 kHz,
aside from very weak het from the latter.

MYANMAR Earthcake disaster situation Update, March 28.
On the morning of Friday, March 28, 2025, at 06:20 UT (12:50 PM local time
in Myanmar), a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale
struck central Myanmar. The epicenter was located approximately 16 kms
north-west of Sagaing, at a depth of 10 kms. This seismic event led to
wide-spread destruction and prompted Myanmar to declare a state of emer-
gency.
According to various media reports, hundreds are feared dead, although it
is difficult to obtain accurate information. A rescuer in Mandalay, Myan-
mar's second-largest city, told an international media group that the
damage is "enormous," and the number of casualties is "at least in the
hundreds." Yangon, Myanmar's largest city and commercial hub—located about
600 km (289 miles) from the epicenter near Mandalay — also experienced
tremors.
In the aftermath, there is limited information regarding disruptions to
radio broadcasting services within Myanmar. Monitoring of medium wave (MW)
frequencies around 12.30 past 13.30 UTC indicates that Myanmar Radio and
Television (MRTV) on 576 kHz, the main service, and the 729 kHz , which
broadcasts services to minority ethnic communities, remain audible. Ho-
wever, MRTV's 594kHz from Nay Pyi Taw , typically affected by interference
from a strong Thai station, and 711 kHz (Yangon Yengu) are currently inau-
dible.
{later} re: Myanmar - A few hours after the earthquake struck Myanmar,
at 10:37 UT, re: Myanmar Revised draft. Following the 7.7 - magnitude
earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, MRTV experienced
disruptions in its broadcasting services. As of 10:37 UTC, MRTV resumed
transmissions on Yangoon 9730 kHz after a period of silence. However,
broadcasts on {Yangoon} 5985 kHz and {Nay Pyi Taw} 5915 kHz remained inac-
tive as of 13:00 UT. These interruptions are likely due to infrastructural
damage caused by the earthquake, which has led to widespread destruction
and communication challenges across the affected regions. March 28.

MRTV has resumed transmission on {Nay Pyi Taw} 5915 kHz and is back on the
air as of 02:00 UTC this morning. Meanwhile, the broadcast on {Yangoon}

Received a warning from Google Groups about prohibited content from
April 2, 2025.
They wrote: "The group "rusdx" contains spam, malware, or other dange-
rous content." Unfortunately, there are no details, so I did not under-
stand anything. The group was founded on May 18, 2015 and was supposed
to celebrate its 10th anniversary. I filed an appeal, as stated, but
I probably will not receive an answer.
Readers of the English-language issue receive the newsletter through
another mailing list, which was urgently organized. We have learned to
bypass sanctions.

RUSSIA [Sowjetunion radio archive] Broadcasting in the USSR during
the WW war of 1941-1945.
During the Great Patriotic War, radio performed several functions at once.
Firstly, broadcasting for the residents of the Soviet Union. As is known,
over-the-air radio receivers were confiscated from the population of the
country before the war. And wired radio was widely used to notify people
about enemy air raids and remained practically the only source of infor-
mation.
During the war years,wired broadcasting became ubiquitous. Residents want-
ed to know the news. The only way to listen to the news were loudspeakers
("Rekord", "Zorka"). They were sensitive, rattled a little, but, in
general, it was a very successful thing. Loudspeakers guaranteed very good
speech intelligibility for listeners.
The ideal of announcer reading at the microphone was, of course, Yuri
Borisovich Levitan with his specific voice with "elevated" highs.
It is interesting that there were more wired broadcasting points in vil-
lages after the end of the war than before it.
The fact is that during the liberation of the territories captured by the
Nazis, signalmen were already walking almost 20 kilometers after the
front, restoring civilian communications and, of course, wired broadcast-
ing.
The second part of the broadcasting was to the Soviet areas occupied by
the Germans. The Germans tried to jam the signal of the over-the-air radio
broadcasting that was functioning there, but it was very difficult to do.
To do this, it was necessary to install transmitters throughout the entire
territory (literally every 50-100 kilometers). The third direction was in-
formation broadcasting to foreign countries. The volume of foreign broad-
casting was large, and this is natural.
In this regard, in those years, two radio committees operated - for do-

cates it's from USAGM Tinang, Philippines, between 2100-2200UT, but I pre-
sume it is still being relayed from Tajikistan as it was for B24 (I assume
Tinang is still inactive following the recent USAGM cuts?). Did a quick
check but no // frequencies found. Programme ended at 2200 UT followed by
a couple of minutes of filler-type music and "Radio Free Asia" ID's

USA WRMI Okeechobee FL. Glenn, Something was definitely weird at WRMI.
I noticed them on 5950 kHz past their 0400 UT scheduled off time. A check
at 0459 UT had no station ID and non-stop music ranging from ambient to
Indian, to contemporary Christian with no announcements. Further check at
0559 UT had music still up with abrupt cut at 0600 UT. Signal was really
strong. 5850 kHz was up sounding good as well with TOMBS.

others are modulating some somewhat underish: 5010, 5050, 5850, 5950,

31; "Assembly of Yahweh", "Sacred Name B'Cast" teaching how to refer to
the heavenly father and the messiah. Off abruptly in mid-utterance.
OC back up briefly w/o audio at 1657:58 UT. S20 peaks

12050 kHz on March 30 at 0253 UT, Spanish song S9; and also at 1456 UT in
Spanish about Jesus, only S6/S7. So WEWN expanded to long hours, at least
14-03 UT. In HFCC.org database, available 14-06 UT, 100 kW at 155 degrees
azi. Still no English on 15610 kHz or anywhere.

USA WTWW update from George McClintock, early UT March 26: solid state
mplifier had a problem, putting the 9930 / 5920 kHz TOMBS transmitter off
for a couple days, now replaced and back on air; today already on 5920kHz,
changed early. The other transmitter may be off for up to two weeks more,
awaiting a replacement tube, at a better price from China than rebuilding
or a new one here. Tuning up on a low band but not on a higher band, like
5085 vs 9475 kHz was the same problem it had when on Anguilla [I guess
6090 vs 11775 kHz]. By 2330 UT March 26, only 9930 kHz is on the air.

rapid flutter. More MX follows with a YL soloist.

nation.

USA 38th Annual NASWA SWL Festival April 25-26 - REMINDER.

latest developments in the radio listening hobbies.
The in-person activities will be held at the Holiday Inn Express & Guest
