ARMENIA On March 18, senior schoolchildren from the Noratus community
(Republic of Armenia - near Yerevan Gavar site, ed.)
visited the local Radio Center 'AR Radio Intercontinental' and separate
high-powered MW & SW organization 'Radio CJSC*' in Yerevan Gavar Armenia)
as part of career guidance.
The director and chief engineer of the enterprise gave the students a tour
of one of the workshops and shared their many years of experience.

its glory. At the moment, this type of transmitter remains in operation
only in Noratus. A living legend of powerful radio broadcasting.

CUBA 5980 kHz, et. al. {CUBA and non} The DentroCuban Jamming Command
was quicker than expected in turning off all ? its jammers following the
deletion of R. Marti by trumuskp. Last few days & nights, have not heard
even any residual off-sked jamming on 5980, 6030, 7355, 7435, 7465, 9565,
11860, 11930, 13820 kHz.

As for MW 1180kHz, from Marathon in the Flakeys, it was previously report-
ed gone, but Terry L Krueger in the FL panhandle reported, March 18 at
1744 UT: "David Crawford, Indian River City, FL confirms Radio Marti 1180
kHz Boot Key (Marathon), FL is still on the air." And at 1109 UT March 22,
"It remains on air from the Sister Creek Island 1180 kc/s 100 kW Florida
site". But is it really new/current program content ? Earlier, March 16
at 1944 UT: TLK remarked, "1180 kc/s Boot Key (Marathon FL) and Greenville
NC are now prime property for 55+ Margaritaville communities."

CZECH REPUBLIC Liblice twin masts to be demolished.
In the Czech Republic, 'Country Radio' has to stop broadcasting on the me-
dium wave frequency 639 kHz after about a year and a half.
This will happen on March 31.
In 2023, the radio station received two of the old AM frequencies from the
public broadcaster CRo, which switched off its AM transmitters on
January 1, 2022.
The transmitter in Liblice (near Ceske Brod) uses the impressive twin an-
tenna masts of 355 meters, the tallest construction in the Czech Republic
(photo: Wikipedia).
Although the power of Country Radio was about 30 times smaller than the
public broadcaster's previous one, it still provided a decent AM coverage
in Prague and Central Bohemia.
According to the German radiomuseum.org, the city of Ceske Brod has al-
ready issued a demolition permit for the masts.
Country Radio will continue to broadcast on the other medium wave trans-
mitter in Ceske Budejovice (954 kHz), for parts of South Bohemia.

While most Czech radio stations are watching the auction of frequencies
for digital broadcasting, Country Radio, in cooperation with Czech Radio
Communications (CRA), has expanded its medium-wave broadcasting to the
iconic Liblice transmitter near Cesky Brod in Central Bohemia.
Originally, this was supposed to happen on October 1, but CRA finally re-
sumed broadcasting from Liblice on September 27. This happened 19 months
after Czech Radio's medium-wave broadcasting in Liblice went silent and
clouds were gathering over the tallest building in the Czech Republic. The
Ministry of Culture refused to classify it as a technical monument, and
for CRA, a silent transmitter would only represent costs for maintaining
the masts, which climb into millions of crowns per year. Therefore, there
was already an application for a demolition order and both masts were to
be ordered to the ground, just like similar masts of the only long-wave
transmitter in the Czech Republic in Topolna near Otrokovice.
However, Liblice was ultimately saved by chance, or rather by CRA's other
business plans.

ECUADOR {and non} 6050 kHz, March 22 at 0546 UT, HCJB still on late
again with Spanish song, S=9+5dB direct. I make a point of listening again
from 0556 UT to detect whether it clash with ELWA LIBERIA.
Can't make out two modulations yet,but off-tuning with BFO can hear a beat
by two carriers a few Hz apart. By 0600 UT there does seem to be modmix.
0601 UT HCJB ID with music in background, so that's ELWA ? And into Bible
reading in Spanish, or at least something citing chapter and verse.
So they are colliding at 0600 UT; however, there has long been an overlap
in the evening / afternoon, both on 6050 kHz between 2100 and 2232 UT per
EiBi database list. Some ELWA signal might be getting into Ecuador toward
the end of that.

1913 UT on March 18; a man speaking in listed Lingala and followed at 1915
UT by a group of children singing. Mostly poor.

ETHIOPIA March 9 (Sunday), on MW 630 kHz, from 0704 UT till I tuned away
at 0745 UT; later noticed audio ended at 0825 UT, with transmitter off at
0827UT; programming of HOA music and segments with on air phone calls; via
Kiwi SDR remote at Addis Ababa.
"Yetimihiriti Radiyo" (presumed) 630 kHz, on March 12 (Wednesday), from
0525-0910 UT; series of short lectures; both teachers and also with stu-
dents; occasional HOA music/singing. At 0900UT, "It is 12 o'clock" in Eng-
lish, a feature that was also reported by David Kernick (Thanks!); heard
via Kiwi SDR remote at Addis Ababa.
Is this the same station as shown on Facebook - "FM 94.7 Educational Radio
Station" and also known as Yetimihiriti Radiyo ?.
"Yetimihiriti Radiyo" translates to"Education Radio" in Amharic (the offi-
cial language of Ethiopia) and refers to an Ethiopian FM radio station.

"Yetimihiriti": means "education" in Amharic.
"Radiyo": means "radio" in Amharic.
FMSCAN lists "Yetimihiriti Radiyo (Education Radio)" as an Ethiopian radio
station. FMSCAN: also lists the station's FM frequency as 94.7 MHz.
Clearly the weekend broadcast is very abbreviated, when compared to the
weekday schedule and also different format.

roman letters is Turkish, meaning sacrifice. If I say it's Arabic, then
translates as silver - I bet Turkish version is what they mean.

recheck, China now on top but Myanmar mx easily heard underneath... As al-
ways, 13770 kHz is a critical guide to this fqy, as it provides a clean
CNR-7 signal, useful in identifying which signal is which on 7345 kHz.

Don Moore is traveling in South America and have made recordings from Pa-
racas in Ica Department - right on the coast and later from Huaraz and
Puno. He writes "Fortunately I have a lot of space at OneDrive. I uploaded
all the files I made in Paracas.
On the first day I just had an 11 meter loop. The next day I enlarged it
to 24 meters soday two and day three are better. But I was only able to do
a few hours on day three in the evening day as we were leaving early the
next morning and I had to take in theantenna. Our exact location was at -

Last week we were in Huaraz for a few days and I was able to make a few
decent SDR recordings. We were in an apartment building but I set up a
station on the roof one evening. I did three files around sunset and then
one more later after we got back from dinner.
I also did a few band scans with the pocket radio during breakfast. The
only station heard was 670 kHz, listed as Radio Integridad on the MTC
list. I did not hear an ID, however. This was heard every morning but it
must go off in the afternoon as it isn't on the SDR recordings.

RUSSIA {USSR radio history} Today we will remember the radio station
"Atlantika". - Call signs of the Murmansk radio station "Atlantika".
The coast and the sea have always been on short waves - love, patience and
expectation. And since June 1965, they were also connected by the waves of
the radio station "Atlantika". "Atlantika" gained unprecedented popularity
at that time. It broadcast to the entire world ocean. The voice from the
native Kola land could be heard by sailors thousands of miles away:
off the coast of Africa, America, Antarctica.
Once every three days, the crew gathered in one place - at the radio.
There, but on the other side of the ocean, on land, the families of the
sailors gathered. An information and music program was broadcast for a
whole hour - as the Murmansk residents said, "heartfelt "Atlantika". Fi-
nances in the post-perestroika era became higher than human feelings. The
Sea Wave was closed in 2004, but the Atlantic remained - in the hearts of
sailors, in the lives of journalists.

July 2, 1965. The radio station played letters from families of fishermen
and sailors, which were recorded in the radio studio. "The heads of radio

lantic - always caught this radio station and tried to turn it on for the
crew to listen. It was warm, homey - such a forgotten warm feeling," -

TAJIKISTAN Re: Radio Free Asia via Orzu Tajikistan relay site.
Yes, the RFA transmissions from the third party facilities in Tajikistan*
are still up. I assume this also applies to mediumwave arrangements of
RFE/RL if still in use (have not followed the developments in this field).
This while it appears that USAGM shortwave facilities outside the USA have
been shut down like Greenville-NC, just a bit later, on Monday morning UTC
Turned off completely,so not just VOA transmissions but also those of RFE/
RL, RFA and external broadcasters are gone. Which could even mean that ENC
'Encompass Digital Media' has now to compensate the BBC and KBS for the
missing Tinian and Greenville transmissions, in such a case with little
prospects of ever getting their money back I dare to speculate.
Now one could guess why shortwave equipment has been shut down but not
Djibouti and, as just reported here, Marathon mediumwave transmitters,
satellite uplinks and "computer stuff". But I suspect there is no ratio-
nale behind all this anymore. Only sheer madness of horribly radicalized
people.

mine what site has necessarily replaced Grimesland for KBS World Radio
hour in Spanish, which is still on air as if nothing had happened. Runn-
ing TDOA via KiwiSDRs, keep getting error messages, but one "successful"
fix using Spain, Brasil and Florida at 0113 UT puts it at 25.80 N, -32.20
W, i.e. in the Atlantic way off W Africa beyond Canarias, yeah, right.
As I listen to it via some other remote, they are talking about 11880 !
Lamenting what has happened to VOA and Radio Marti, but now they say their
11880 kHz is via ENC site WOOFFERTON UK ! Anyway I then try another trio,
northern Sweden, Sa'udi Arabia, and Athens, Georgia - they fix it at
23.40 N, -1.00 west - which is in SW Algeria. Yeah, right; at least the
longitude is close to WOF.see also VATICAN STATE.

options ? And ENC Woofferton appears to be the only obvious candidate for
KBS on 11880 kHz now, or maybe Talata Volonondry-MBR ?

date from James Cridland. After initially announcing that BBC Sounds and
music radio stations would no longer be available outside the UK, the BBC
has quietly revised its FAQ. While you still can't access content directly
from BBC apps or websites, international listeners can still tune in to
stations like BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music via third-party platforms like

ived for work today only to find themselves locked out, following an order
from President Trump's administration. Over 1,000 employees were placed on
indefinite paid leave, and contracts with international broadcasters like
Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia were abruptly termi-
nated. According to NPR, the cuts, pushed by Trump's senior adviser Kari
Lake, are raising serious legal and ethical questions — with former USAGM
officials calling it "Bloody Saturday" for global media.
These networks, which reach 420 million people across 63 languages, are
crucial for delivering uncensored news to regions where press freedom is

and other U.S. government-funded media entities overseen by the U.S.
Agency for Global Media, was sudden, harmful and deeply unfair. It places
journalists in foreign language services who have devoted years of their
lives to their jobs and have done nothing wrong in an impossible position.
To be sure,these agencies have suffered from terrible management decisions
in recent years. But to break things by stopping all programming does not
make these agencies better. Rather, it weakens their usefulness to U.S.
national security.

Stalin, Mao and Khomeini couldn't quell freedom's voice. But Trump did.
The world's autocrats are doing somersaults about the silencing of the
Voice of America.
Voice of America went on the air eight weeks after Pearl Harbor. "We bring
you voices from America," journalist William Harlan Hale said in German on
Feb. 1, 1942, in VOA's first broadcast. "Today, and daily from now on, we
shall speak to you about America and the war. The news may be good for us.
The news may be bad. But we shall tell you the truth."
In the 83 years since then, VOA has been the voice of freedom across the
globe,a constant force countering totalitarianism during World War II, the
Cold War and the decades since.
Adolf Hitler couldn't silence it. Joseph Stalin and his successors, right
up through Vladimir Putin, couldn't silence it. Mao Zedong and his succes-
sors, through Xi Jinping, couldn't silence it. Ruhollah Khomeini and the
ayatollahs couldn't silence it.
But DonaldTrump has just silenced the voice of freedom. For the first time
since 1942, VOA has been taken off the air, after Trump put virtually all
of its 1,300 staff members on leave. The administration also shut down
VOA's sister outlets Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia.
{...} In Iran, where VOA is officially banned as an "enemy broadcaster,"
the state-aligned news agency Tabnak celebrated: "Trump administration
shuts down anti-Iranian media outlet Voice of America." VOA, with a news-
room of about 100 Farsi speakers, reached a combined social-media follow-
ing of 9.5 million in Iran, thwarting the regime with 24/7 news delivered
via satellite and VPNs.
Russia, too, can celebrate the demise of a news outlet it last year cate-
gorized as an "undesirable organization" and a threat to its national se-
curity. In Africa and in Latin America,Russian and Chinese propaganda out-
lets, which have been expanding, will no longer have their lies challenged
by a fact-based U.S. alternative.
Combined with theTrump administration's canceling of most foreign aid, the
silencing of VOA, which boasted a weekly audience of about 360 million
people in nearly 50 languages, signals the complete surrender of U.S."soft
power," influence gained over decades using means other than warfare.
VOA's triumphs during this time were many. Legendary broadcasters such as
Edward R. Murrow and John Chancellor joined the effort. Willis Conover
spread a love for American freedom with his jazz broadcasts behind the
Iron Curtain.
VOA played a key role in keeping Chinese students informed during the
Tiananmen Square uprising. Today, celebrated human rights figures from
China, Myanmar, Tibet, Russia and elsewhere work for VOA because journa-
lists can't practice freely in their home countries. Just last week, two
men accused of being "hired guns for the government on Iran" went on trial
in New York for an alleged plot to assassinate the Iranian-born journa-
list Masih Alinejad, a VOA journalist who has been an outspoken advocate
for women's rights in Iran. "You might find this hard to believe - but
for simply posting videos of myself showing my hair and encouraging women
in Iran to do the same, the regime sent a man with an AK-47 to my house
in Brooklyn to kill me," Alinejad posted on social media on March 11.
This is the sort of hero Trump is silencing. {...}
VOA itself costs taxpayers just $270 million a year, an exceptionally ef-
ficient way to promote freedom and American influence.
China is believed to be spending billions of dollars in Africa alone
through its CGTN, Xinhua and China Daily propaganda outlets. Iran is re-
portedly spending hundreds of millions of dollars a year on its state pro-
paganda. Russia, through propaganda outlets such as RT and Sputnik, does
likewise. They compete against VOA in repressive countries including Vene-
zuela and South Sudan - or at least they did until Trump shut down VOA in
an executive order on Friday. Xinhua has dozens of reporters in Washing-
ton; now, VOA doesn't have any.
In Africa, where the United States is competing economically and politi-
cally for influence, VOA reaches - or reached - 48 countries and is - or
was - a widely trusted source, countering the extremism voiced by terro-
rist groups such as al-Shabab, Boko Haram and the Islamic State. In Iran,
VOA has managed to double its online audience and increase video viewer-
ship by eightfold. In China, VOA reported on the government's attempts
to interfere in the U.S. election, countered its efforts to hide the ori-
gins of the coronavirus pandemic and combated other Chinese disinforma-
tion, such as the claim that Jews control the U.S. government. {...}
The Chinese propagandists have much to gain by silencing voices of
truth and freedom. Apparently, so does the Trump administration.

Hi all, Technical note: as a person who has dealt with 100s kW transmit-
ters, if the VOA'S Greenville NC transmitter buildings at Site B are truly
powered off including environmental support,it will not be long before the
transmitters themselves are irretrievably destroyed. When buildings go to
outside temperatures, there is a large increase in possibility of rupture
of the internal cooling lines on the final power tetrodes if they were not
flushed with appropriate glycol-based compounds (and I seriously doubt
anyone had the time to do that given the speed of the VOA developments).
Cooling line rupture is a instant scrap-metal conversion.
Also,like any vacuum tube, the filaments are fragile and can break if they
are powered down to cold status and then re-energized later, even in a
gentle manner. (How many times in your house has an incandescent bulb
popped when power is switched on?).Typical practice is to ensure the lower
voltage filaments on transmitting tubes, like the 250 kW power tetrodes
used at VOA, are always kept energized even when the high-voltage connec-
tions are not energized. Since those filaments can consume hundreds of
amps each,there is no way they could be left on using batteries or equiva-
lent if the mains power is off.
I certainly hope these reports are wrong, while the ultimate fate of VOA
works through the courts. > $100M of hardware assets hang in the balance.

RFA's Korean broadcast via Tinang-PHL on 11510 kHz was missing this morn-
ing; that one had been coming in loud and clear here in recent weeks. But
the two Korean broadcasts via Tajikistan, 9990 and 11560 kHz, are on the
air at this hour (nearly 1800UT), as heard via a remote in Japan. I heard
a clear "RFA" ID on 11560 while listening to that one for a few minutes.
I don't understand any Asian languages, so I can't confirm the news they'
re broadcasting is current, but it sounds like they're trying to maintain
a "business as usual" stance in the RFA operation, according to CNN:

casts were off the air, also Thailand, Philippines; Vatican Radio and
KBS-Korea via USAGM Greenville NC; including some clips.
First item voiced by Ray Robinson referred to "C M Stanbury [II] in the
USA" getting a QSL for Commando Solo long ago. I can't be positive where
he was on a particular date, but his QTH was Crystal Beach, Ontario, on
Lake Erie west of Buffalo USA, south of Niagara Falls.
CMS2 hasn't come up in a long time. Is not even in Wikipedia. He was a
prolific DX author, such as for Electronix Illustrated, and here are some
examples from 1969-70 of his own SW Newsletter, 'published' by multiple ?
carbon copies of his dirty-keyed typewriter with numerous typos or strike-

USA {and non} USAGM what's shut and what's not: Sources say USAGM have
shut down essentially everything for Africa. So the only things left(which
apparently are statutorily required) are Marti, Farsi to Iran, Mandarin to
China, and maybe service to Afghanistan.
All other services to Africa and to the Far East are gone. They also have
shut down all the feeds to local FM stations in Africa and elsewhere.

It is necessary to sum up the results of Friday March 21 broadcasts.
The session on the frequency of 11840 kHz reached its listeners. Based on
the letters, there was confident reception in Irkutsk, Novosibirsk,
Khabarovsk. Some listeners received the FarEastern session in the European
part. However, it makes sense to start working in the Far East earlier,
given the time difference. I considered this point, but there was no free
transmitter available.
The session on the frequency of 5905kHz in the direction of Europe gather-
ed a larger number of listeners. Among the distant points, Bishkek can be
noted. Many messages from the European part, which was predictable. Liste-
ners from Belarus, Crimea, European countries reported. In some cases,
reception was even on a folded antenna, and in some - a barely noticeable
presence.
Just in case, I will remind you: short waves spread in leaps. Ideal flaw-
less reception with the quality of stereophonic transmissions is difficult
to achieve. If the listener gets into the zone of one of the "jumps" - the
reception is excellent. Considering the geographical location of the
Tashkent Radio Center, reception in the North-West region is the second
"jump".
On technical issues: The session on the frequency of 11840 kHz passed
without failures, but the broadcast on the frequency of 5905 kHz began a
few minutes later. The transmitter was turned on on time, the carrier was
there. Modulation was delayed. Apparently, some kind of failure occurred
on the server. Several times during the session, there were short-term
shutdowns of the transmitter (the protection was triggered)
I did not receive an explanation for the failures, as well as a banal
"sorry". The aftertaste remained, but oh well. In Kaliningrad, the session
on the frequency of 5905kHz was received without problems. The story about
Radio Center #5 reached its employees.
P.S. Thanks to everyone who sent their observations. Naturally, I see pub-
lications in other places too. There are crazy comments that it is neces-
sary to broadcast almost with a megawatt. That the sound was like the in-
famous transmitter of the "Voice of Korea", etc.
In short, a lot of smart guys, passionate to the point of graphomania. If
only there was something to write. I admit constructive criticism and re-
cord it for the future. Comments from the series: "But it would be ne-
cessary..." This is just kitchen talk.
I want to say that the band in two sessions was wide enough. The sound is
adequate for the shortwave range. If you listen on old receivers with dead
electrolytes and upset circuits, it is difficult to get a good result. I
listened to both sessions on the P250M with an outdoor antenna and on por-
table Chinese devices. Naturally, when listening using an external anten-
na, the arrow simply fell to the end of the scale.The sound has bass, high
intelligibility. What else could you want - I don't know.
And about megawatts. The goal of conducting sessions so that it would be
possible to receive on an iron was not set. Two hour-long broadcasts cost
almost 12k. And this is only 100 kW.
What next? There is material on the structure of Radio Centers of powerful
radio broadcasting. That is, what services work, some technical aspects,
etc. If the mood and financial possibilities arise, I will arrange it into
a program.

DJ at 0500 UT but couldn't pull much, let alone language or an ID. Been
working on this off and on for the last 10 days or so. WRTH lists
