yer, dedicated to faithful and radio listeners, Amen! Hallelujah! A reli-
gious hymn. Fair reception: 35533. Parallel logs on 5940 kHz, out of air;
11750 kHz, BA reception.
9818v/9820 kHz Saturday March 15, at 0115-0125 UT, Radio Nove de Julho,
Sao Paulo-SP, in Portuguese. Man announcer makes a preaching, presumably.
Very poor to BA reception: 25311.
15190 kHz Saturday March 15, at 1357-1410 UT, Radio Inconfidencia, Conta-
gem-MG, in Portuguese. Woman announcer talking; Music; 1400 UT Man / woman
communications, talking news ???. Bad reception: 15411.

BRAZIL 4885 kHz March 10 at 2348 UT, no signal from R. Clube do Para
into three remotes, Pardinho, Brasilia, Goiania, nor a couple hours later.
Checking because of this item in NASWA Flashsheet:
"4885 kHz BRAZIL Radio Clube do Para, Belem, March 6; weak but in the
clear here at 1010 UT well before the Korean fades in to take over the fqy
a little later on. OM with extended talks in PP. Nice to hear again.
Checked their website stream just to make sure and indeed //

Still nothing direct at 0638 UT March 11 on 4885 kHz. But happened to
awaken March 11 at 1011 UT and found a signal on 4885 kHz, S=9+5dB, mostly
talk with some music bits, too weak to be certain of language but seemed
more like Portuguese than Korean.
Para used to be all-night and should be on prime-time if serious. I've
brought this to attn of Rudolf Grimm {SP-Brazil}, who recently ran a list
of active ZYs, not including this one. His reply:
"Hi Glenn, I'll take a look. I checked on the Radio Clube do Para website
and found that the only frequency currently in use is FM (106.9 MHz).
I remember reading a while ago about the deactivation of RCP for both me-
dium waves (690 kHz) and the tropical band (4885 kHz).
It was made official. But the website doesn't mention use of MW and tro-
pical bands. There is no current positive reference on the Tudo Radio web-
site, nor on radios.com.br. It only mentions FM transmission.
Based on your information, the recent listening time of RCP in tropical
waves coincides with the usual time of football matches in Brazil.

However, there is one fact to consider in this aspect that you report: for
some time now, we have had the occasional resurgence of Radio Cultura de
Araraquara, 3365 kHz (remember this station?), even after the deactivation
of this frequency,on the days/nights of the broadcast of soccer matches of
Ferroviaria FC, the city's main sports team, only during the game times.
At the end of the match, the 90 m transmitter was put back to sleep until
the next match of this team.
Today, March 11, the main team of Belem, Remo FC, plays tonight against
the team Criciuma FC, in a match for the 2025 Brazilian Championship -
Series C.
It is possible that the frequency of 4885kHz will be used extraordinarily.
There is no reliable information. It is worth observing from 2040 UTC to
0200 UTC today, according to the portal:

UNID Chinese on 15210 kHz at 0400 UT on March 7. I need some help id-ing
a station I logged between 0330 and 0415 UT last nite (7 Mar).

While translation software couldn't pull a ToH id out of it, the feature
at ToH mentioned Sohu News China and a report on two government sessions
dealing with consumer spending and consumer confidence. Sohu is a major
Chinese internet and media outlet. Any ideas?
The audio rely from CCTV 4 (international Chinese channel) by CRI
Chinese. They sometimes do that. They don't mention CCTV4 in the program,

This is supposed to be the special live broadcast of 14-3 CPPCC (Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference), which was held in Beijing on
March 5 - 10, 2025. Several CRI frequencies were reported to be used at
0030-0330 UT. Probably for Chinese in overseas.

CUBA 6000 [and non] Febr 17 at 0315 UT, RHC English S=9+40/50dB but
extremely suptorted; something's always wrong at RHC. Occasional beepy
QRM. Others had been complaining earlier about that.
6001 kHz Febr 18 at 0213 UT, there it is again, intermittent OOK on this
frequency into Maryland SDR, whilst Cuba is off, but Turkey is weakly on.
Stronger into UTwente on 6000.998 kHz. We hear beeping only if allowed to
beat against 6000 kHz. Maybe from 4XZ, which has shown up before inside
the 49m SWBCband. EiBi database list has it only on four other frequencies
in ute bands. [At 0515UT, nothing on 6000 kHz but at UTWente 6000 USB tun-
ing still audiblizes the beepery only].

on screen at 15.30 UT on Fri March 7, but NOTHING seen / heard in Spanish
South AM target BRA/ARG etc., nor on Perseus SDR installation worldwide on
this time slot. 14-16 UT requested on various amateurish KIWI SDR units.

any active RHC frequency besides this and 6000 kHz ? Spanish evenings on
9710 kHz is not RHC as someone guessed, { but CRI East Turkistan - Kashi
Kashgar Xinjiang relay, or SZG later the day at 11.00 - 23.30 UT wb ed.}.
9710 kHz still shows on RHC website of grossly outdated info
- 15230 kHz on Febr 21 at 1548UT, RHC S8/S9 but JBM music. Something's al-
ways wrong at RHC. It's mystifying why this and some other stations keep
turning on a transmitter, yet unable to modulate; is this a matter of en-
gineers "just following orders" while management is clueless about the re-
sult, not even turning on a receiver ?

Here are the isolated DRM Freqys in the A-25 season from Far East Asia.
This data is more accurate than the PNG / JPG file from the B-24 winter
season, which originate from China mainland, and contains incorrect kilo-
watt values of 500 kW in digital mode.
Delete in summer season also 6180 kHz BEI, 15760 QIQ Heilongjiang,
17800 KUN, 21530 DOF Hainan island province.

have been comprehensible in Amharic.

ETHIOPIA A mediumwave station on 630 kHz heard on the KiwiSDR in Addis
Ababa may be associated with the Oromia Education Bureau and broadcasts
pre-recorded lessons for students in Oromo and Amharic (I have not noticed
what might be considered as live programmes).
A lot of typical Horn of Africa type music is played, as well as a repeti-
tive xylophone-style tune between some lessons. I have translated snippets
and come up with various introductions, such as
"This is a 7th grade Amharic language course prepared by the Oromia Educa-
tion Bureau",
"This is a 5th grade environmental science lesson","This is a 7th grade
lesson in the field of physical education",
"This program is designed for those who are learning Amharic as a second
language" etc, but no clear indication as to the actual station name.
As would be expected for student lessons, it is heard during what would be
the daytime in Ethiopia.Judging from the strength of reception, the trans-
mitter appears to be located in Addis Ababa.

THERE IS SOME INFO ON THE STATION IN 630 kHz WITH SOME TRANSCRIPTION HELP
I've been following the station on 630 kHz since Friday (7 March), of
course using the Addis Ababa webSDR. At 0500 UT on that day they played
their interval signal and identified in Oromo, a strong and clear ID but
only 'clear' if one understands the lingo - the only word I recognized was
'barnootaa' [education].

7 seconds into the recording under the main audio you can hear the speak-
ing clock with a time check in English, which happens at the top of every
hour. The IS & ID is followed by a 15-second burst of HoA music then what
appears to be a station jingle.
The signal was loud and clear, equally as strong as the RadioEthiopia out-
let on 873 kHz. On Friday I monitored the station on and off between 0445-
1400 UT then found it was off air when I checked again around 1900 UT.
Yesterday it was either off air completely or I tuned in too late (0900UT)
- today I found it on air at 0745 UT however it was off air when I tuned
back at 0830 UT.

- Radio Ethiopia National Service. All transmitters 684, 828, 855, 873,
891, 972, 1044 kHz are listened to, except 1485kHz (10 kW) possibly due to
low power and distance from SDR.
- Fana National Radio.
Both transmitters -1080 and//6110 kHz are listened to. On HF there are
sometimes problems with modulation and the transmitter switches off.
- Amhara Radio.
The 801 kHz (100 kW) transmitter is never heard, apparently not active. On
6090 kHz there are sometimes problems with modulation and the transmitter

- Oromia Radio. 837 and 1035 kHz are heard, 1053 kHz (50/100 kW) is never

modulation and the transmitter switches off.
- DW-Dimtsi Weyane Radio, Tigray. It is heard on 1359 kHz with a good sig-
nal, but sometimes it is not on the air.
- Tigrai Radio. (not available on the DX resources listed above). Listened

Note: Since 2024, Tigrai regional state broadcasts on the Menasat platform
of the Russian Express AM6 satellite
(these are DW TV channels - Dimtsi Weyane TV, Tigrai TV, TBS and Tigrai
Radio). Coverage area - East Africa, Middle East, Europe, partially -
Russia. However, on websites, YouTube pages and on TV channel tickers, the
parameters of the previous satellite Al Yah 1 are still indicated. Ear-
lier, before the war with Tigray, the central authorities of Ethiopia on
July 6, 2020, turned off all its broadcasting on the Ethiosat platform of
the NSS12 satellite, and on Sept 13, 2022, the DW TV satellite antenna was
blown up by a government drone.

- Gimbi Educational Radio. Was heard on 1215 kHz regularly until the end
of December,then was absent and appeared in February with a retransmission
of UNID broadcasts - an unidentified educational station broadcasting in

the station is on the air irregularly, starting transmissions at 5.00 UTC.
- UNID - Unidentified educational station in the Oromo language. Listened
to mainly on two frequencies (except Gimbi Radio) - 630kHz (transmitter in
Addis Ababa) from 5.00 to 13.45 UT and 1260 (transmitter remote from SDR)
from 3.00 or 4.00 to 15.00 UT. Broadcast time may vary, broadcasting is
irregular. Once in February this broadcast was well heard at 13.15 UT on
the frequency 927 kHz, which, like 1260 kHz, is absent from the specified
DX resources.
- Sidama Radio. It is heard regularly on 954 kHz (2.5 kW).

like a huge exaggeration.
Lithuania's 1386 kHz is still on the air, relaying Radio Liberty's stream.
Ukraine's 1278 kHz is on the air as should be. They have just a weekly
20-minute co-production programme with RFE/RL for Crimea. The same for co-
operation with Moldova. Djibouti is still on the air despite broadcasting
just a music loop etc etc. That list doesn't look credible.

MALDIVES Voice of the Maldives.
45 years ago, Radio Maldives became The Voice of The Maldives. The first
radio station in the Maldives had started under the name Male Radio on
29 December 1962. The radio service was quickly taken over by Seneco Radio
which used short-wave transmitters. Radio Maldives officially started on
11 September 1966 as a government organisation and on 19 February 1980
Radio Maldives became "The Voice of The Maldives".
The peculiarity of this radio is that it has studios on the island of
Male, while its transmitter is located on the island of Thilafushi (photo)
Thilafushi is not an island but an atoll whose lagoon became a landfill.
Although the transmitter is not powerful, the station has been heard as
far away as Europe, Africa and Asia. The current installation consists of
a Nautel transmitter of 25 kW on 1449 kHz, coupled to a directional anten-
na consisting of two 53.3 metre tall guyed masts.

MEXICO 6185- kHz March 12 at 0631 UT, XEPPM is OFF ! Still off at 0917
UT. Mexico's last SW station, R. Educacion, hope not gone for good. Had
been reliable late at night, and hardly anything else above 6115kHz; 6160-
WBCQ has been drastically curtailed with the departure of TOMBS. WRTH 2025
shows no callsign for 6185 kHz, but Senal Cultura Mexico, 1.4 kW at
22-12 UT.
EiBi database list agrees on the hours, but Aoki list shows 21-10UT. There
are no longer any DST shifts in most of Mexico. At 2232 UT I try the Kiwi-
SDRs in MexCy XE1AF, and Qro: nothing on 6185 kHz.
At the bottom of this page there is a 6185kHz program schedule dated March
2025, a lot of blanx, but only between 17 and 24 local time 23-06UT. After
06 SW must have been relaying one of their other stations:

pop/rock mx format. In the clear after Tibet faded around 0100 UT, a bit
better w/ shallower fades. 0125 UT "From the heart of ... on 6130 kHz
shortwave, this is Radio Europe". 0131 UT ID. 0143 UT ID. After 0100 UT
music seemed to be dance stuff. Mostly weak after 0100 UT. 0200 UT t/out.

OMAN/PHILIPPINES/USA Might keep an ear on some of the scheduled trans-
missions from other broadcasters that use the USAGM transmitters. For in-
stance BBCWS uses USAGM Tinang relay installations for its morning and
evening beams to Southeast Asia, as well as for broadcasts to Myanmar and
North Korea. Are these still on the air? Moved elsewhere? Or gone?
BBCWS was still going via USAGM Tinang relay between 2200 and 0000 UT on
March 16 for its Monday morning beam to SoEaASIA. Did not get to check the
later 1000-1200 UT transmission.
The BBCWS broadcasts to SoEaASIA could probably be moved to A'Dheela Oman
relay site, or perhaps to MGLOB Madagascar. A new site for the programs to
Korea is anyone's guess. Still awaiting the release of the A-25 schedule,
might it already show some moves?

PHILIPPINES Radio Pilipinas via USAGM Tinang relay center site,
still on air.
Although most USAGM transmitters have gone silent over the past couple
of days, the Tinang, Philippines relay site is still carrying Radio
Pilipinas this evening (17 March) confirmed at 1730 UT sign-on and still
audible past 1930 UTC on 9925, 12120 and 15190 kHz.
All three frequencies are audible here with fair reception.

RUSSIA/USSR Sowjet radio history The Fifth Program of the All-Union Radio
In the 60s-80s of the last century, the Fifth Program existed on the All-
Union Radio. The Fifth Program of the All-Union Radio is a 24-hour infor-
mational,socio-political and artistic program addressed to Soviet citizens
outside the country (sailors, fishermen, polar explorers, etc.), broadcast
on short and medium waves.
Broadcast from August 1, 1960, in 1989 it was transferred to the Central
Radio Broadcasting to foreign countries. It included several autonomous
editorial boards that prepared issues for the corresponding groups of
listeners:
- Radio "For Those at Sea" from Moscow for fishing and scientific expedi-
tions, from Odessa for sailors and fishermen of the Black Sea-Mediterra-
nean basin,
- Radio "Atlantic" from Murmansk for sailors and fishermen of the Northern
basin, from Riga for the Western basin of the Atlantic.
- Radio "Pacific Ocean" from Vladivostok for sailors and fishermen of the
Pacific and Indian basins,
- Radio "For Soviet specialists working abroad"from Moscow (several issues
at different times for countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America).
- Radio for polar explorers;
- Radio station "Rodina", for those who live abroad and have nostalgia for

"I live in Riyadh and have had meetings with SBA. At that time (early
2024), they were on the fence as to whether to continue.
The transmitters / antennas are currently in a sector of Riyadh that has
been designated for future housing projects. Hence, the government will
either fund a move or have them shut down permanently.
Because there has not been funding to date, they are cannibalizing older
transmitters for replacement parts to at least keep Yemen radio on the air
Saudi Arabia is in the midst of full bore modernization in all sectors and
DAB+ has been touted as the new medium for widespread broadcasting. They
also rely on high-powered MW broadcasters that can be heard throughout the
region.
The future of SW b'casting seems bleak in KSA as surveys of listenership

Curious, because WRTH says the power in Saudi Arabia and Yemen is 50 Hz.
So we should expect the faulty transmitter to show "fence pickets" every
100 Hertz, not every 120 Hertz.
Makes me wonder if these transmissions might be coming from a U.S. mili-
tary base in Saudi Arabia.

TURKEY 448 new radio frequencies have been added in Istanbul. Transport
and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced that Turkey has
made the transition to Digital Audio Broadcasting(DAB+) technology for the
first time. Minister Uraloglu said that DAB+ is a technology that provides
clear, interference-free sound and increases frequency efficiency by
allowing more than one radio channel to be placed on a single frequency.
Stating that there are currently no free frequencies in Istanbul, Uraloglu
said: "We have eliminated this situation by starting DAB+ broadcasts. With
this new technology,we will be able to provide 448 new frequencies accord-
ing to the needs," he said.

always erroneous at Emirler bcast center. Considerable CCI from China mak-
ing a rippling SAH. 2253 UT VOT IS plays until finally off at 2257* UT.
Still no signal on 5960 kHz but I'm QRX on it:

UNIDENTIFIED {DRM digital audio block ? ed.} 21580 kHz, March 10 at
2054 UT, S6/S8 open carrier is the OSOB, except for again some DRMish
noise centred on 21485 kHz. Nothing in HFCC, EiBi or Aoki, suspect China
for both. RFI does use 21580 kHz a lot, but not between 19 and 07 UT.
The 13m SWBC band is drastically underutilized, even now circa solar max.

USA Drumbbb und VOA 2025 Freez. Trump freezes US-funded media outlets
including Voice of America.
President Donald Trump's administration on Saturday put journalists at
Voice ofAmerica and other US-funded broadcasters on leave, abruptly freez-
ing decades-old outlets long seen as critical to countering Russian and
Chinese information offensives.
Hundreds of staffers at VOA, Radio Free Asia, Radio Free Europe and other
outlets received a weekend email saying they will be barred from their of-
fices and should surrender press passes and office-issued equipment.
Trump, who has already eviscerated the US global aid agency and the Educa-
tion Department, on Friday issued an executive order listing the US Agency
for Global Media as among "elements of the federal bureaucracy that the
president has determined are unnecessary."
Kari Lake, a firebrand Trump supporter put in charge of the media agency
after she lost a US Senate bid, said in an email to the outlets that fede-
ral grant money "no longer effectuates agency priorities."
The White House said the cuts would ensure "taxpayers are no longer on the
hook for radical propaganda," marking a dramatic tone shift towards the
networks established to extend US influence overseas.
White House press official Harrison Fields wrote "goodbye" on X in
20 languages, a jab at the outlets' multilingual coverage.
VOA director Michael Abramowitz said he was among 1,300 staffers placed on
leave Saturday.
"VOA needs thoughtful reform, and we have made progress in that regard.But
today's action will leave Voice of America unable to carry out its vital
mission," he said on Facebook,noting that its coverage — in 48 languages —
reaches 360 million people each week.
The head of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, which started broadcasting
into the Soviet bloc during the Cold War, called the cancellation of fund-
ing "a massive gift to America's enemies."
"The Iranian ayatollahs, Chinese communist leaders,and autocrats in Moscow
and Minsk would celebrate the demise of RFE/RL after 75 years," its presi-
dent, Stephen Capus, said in a statement.
US-funded media have reoriented themselves since the end of the Cold War,
dropping much of the programming geared toward newly democratic Central
and Eastern European countries and focusing on Russia and China.
Chinese state-funded media have expanded their reach sharply over the past
decade, including by offering free services to outlets in the developing
world that would otherwise pay for Western news agencies.
Radio Free Asia, established in 1996, sees its mission as providing uncen-
sored reporting into countries without free media including China,Myanmar,
North Korea and Vietnam.
The outlets have an editorial firewall, with a stated guarantee of inde-
pendence despite government funding.
The policy has angered some around Trump,who has long railed against media
and suggested that government-funded outlets should promote his policies.
The move to end US-funded media is likely to meet challenges, much like
Trump's other sweeping cuts. Congress, not the president, has the consti-
tutional power of the purse and Radio Free Asia in particular has enjoyed
bipartisan support in the past.
Advocacy group Reporters Without Borders condemned the decision, saying it
"threatens press freedom worldwide and negates 80years of American history
in supporting the free flow of information."
Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee,and
senior Democratic congresswoman Lois Frankel said in a joint statement
that Trump's move would "cause lasting damage to US efforts to counter
propaganda around the world."
One VOA employee, who requested anonymity, described Saturday's message
as another "perfect example of the chaos and unprepared nature of the pro-
cess," with VOA staffers presuming that scheduled programming is off but
not told so directly.
A Radio Free Asia employee said: "It's not just about losing your income.
We have staff and contractors who fear for their safety. We have reporters
who work under the radar in authoritarian countries in Asia. We have staff
in the US who fear deportation if their work visa is no longer valid."
"Wiping us out with the strike of a pen is just terrible."

USA [and non] VOA situation: Not all the staff at USAGM Greenville
[Grimesland]-NC-USA are full-time employees; seven technicians are perso-
nal service contractors (PSC) and are to be put on administrative leave
until further notice, but not locked out, unlike some personnel in
Washington-DC.
Five Government Service Employees remaining are: three supervisors, the
chief engineer and a secretary. One person already accepted a buy-out. A
former manager has returned. It's unclear if there will be enough staff to
keep running the site 24/7 hrs/d.
Perhaps they will at least keep Radio Marti broadcasting as long as the
program feed remains. It seems there has been a lot of repetition already
in music and talk features to fill the 24-hour schedule.
Already planned: GB-8, a 500 kW AEG transmitter is to be retired, as no
high voltage transformer can be obtained for it. One of the Kuwait sen-
ders, a Continental 417 will be moved in to replace it.
Now in doubt is a major expansion of the Kuwait site, three x 250 kW
Ampegons, to replace Sao Tome, and others. Other relay sites? So far it
appears that USAGM Tinang, Philippines relay site is still operating.

carrier S6/S7, 1500 UT JIP Radio Marti with ID. 11860 kHz was not on at
1457 UT but is on after 1500 UT. 11930 kHz already running at 1457 UT,
S7/9+5dB, all Grimesland NC site. Presumably about to be abolished.
Greenville manager Willford Cooper could not find anything out at 1604 UT
March 16. The computer network was down and Greenville getting its Marti
programs from satellite. Staff could not put in their time cards, get the
daily activity report of operational memos from DC. So if they had been
told to shut down they would never know.
But by 1654UT The order has been passed to Macon Dail, the Chief Engineer,
to shut Greenville site down. All employees have been told not to show up
for work.
Alan Furst, Kansas City, reports: "Radio Marti went off at 16:30 today
March 16. All transmitters appear to be off in 22 and 25 meters. It hap-
pened abruptly, although I wasn't listening closely to know what they said
at the end. Was a surprise."
Many USAGM services are missing frequencies, dead air, filling with music
or repeating old programming as the axe is falling; much monitoring of de-
tails in the WOR indian ocean group. The White House has quoted Dan Robin-
son's critique of VOA as one justification. And Kim Elliott says,
"The zombification of VOA has begun. Listening at 0400 UTC 15 March on
4930kHz, Botswana relay via an SDR in South Africa: It was the VOA "World-
wide in Five" newscast from March 9 at 0200 UTC." - he probably meant 0400
UT 16 March as this was posted a few minutes after that.
VOA's broadcasting of week-olds eclipses Voice of Turkey, where their olds
would be no more than 14.5 hours stale.

per EiBi database list:

Various other relay sites are affected, MW and SW, disappearing from air,
replacing with other programming, etc., everyone trying to keep up with
this fast-breaking situation, reporting to the WOR iog. Of course this al-
so threatens innocent bystations using USAGM facilities such as Radio
Thailand, Pilipinas.
Greenville guys were told to shut the power off to the building.That means
no A/C and no heat. In NC the equipment will be ruined in a month. It's
over for shortwave.
