The curtain array is in perfect working order according to rumor Unknown number of HRS Curtain Arrays, perhaps 20%+ capable of targeting Iran. All Balad blue- prints and diagrams are held by Thales in Switzerland, and due to Swiss corporate secrecy laws and are unobtainable by me at this time. If I had these blueprints I would be able to proceed with further analysis for my client. As Iraq is not fully formed as an independent state, these blue- prints need to be made public - so as to be in line with international law with respect to the oversight of public property of defeated powers (as established after WWII). With Balad fully re-activated, it would be possible for RFE-RL / VOA / Radio Farda / BBC Persian / RFI Persian / etc ... to broadcast to Iran with local MW fieldstrength on up to 16 [SW] frequencies at a time. Balad has the equivalent to the transmission capabilities of Gloria, Portugal > Former USSR. Iran may be oil rich, but it is not ready to jam 16 x 500 kW SW transmitters aimed at it! Religious broadcasters should be allotted time on Balad, so as to keep any "Radio War" between the US and Iran from heating up into a true war. Iraq's regional SW broadcasting needs can be fully met by Abu Ghraib Relay Station, in the Iraq national capital region. (Michael Hackett, dxld) According to TDP , the 16 x 500 kW site called "Balad" above is Salah el Din; the other SW sites are: Abu Ghraib [note spelling here too - where have I heard that name before?] 6 x 250 kW; Babel 4 x 500 kW; Salman Pack [sic] with 4 x 100 kW, 18 x 50 kW, 8 x 10 and 1 x 16 kW. Altho TDP does not give an "out " of service date, not a single one of these SWBC transmitters Iraq once had is on the air, and indeed, there has been little if any SWBC from Iraq (other than Kurdish clandestines, now not so clandestine), since the first Gulf War. I seem to recall that a good many of them were destroyed or damaged at that time. An MP3 clip on the impressive opening ceremony with signature tune, ID, and Wagner's "Valkyrie" has been added (Sept 2009, 4775 kHz, un- interfered), as it almost hasn't changed until these days. This kind of "IQ File Analysis" is a great tool to dig out DX and to broaden our knowledge on the behavior of signals. I listened on Tuesday and also confirmed that the regular English presenters are back with VOT pro- gramming. It seems that the programme schedule may have changed slightly compared to what was heard before their hiatus with "Unscripted Twists of Fate" (previously heard on Wednesdays) and a new programme "The First Quarter of the Millenium". For anyone who's lost track of their English frequency schedule, it is: a.. 1330-1425 13635 b.. 1730-1825 9660 c.. 1930-2025 6050 d.. 2130-2225 9610 e.. 2300-2355 5960 f.. 0400-0455 6125 7285 I'll update and re-upload the programme schedule to (or for short: as soon as I am able to. Chopoff at 2359:50 UT just in time to avoid an extraneous German broadcast, and uncover the Chinese CCI. Something's always awry at An- kara, erroneous at Emirler! Many tnx to WOR reporters for heads-up: At 2312 UT from John VORW Jurasek: "Voice of Turkey English Service ap- pears to have resumed ! This requires further monitoring but as of 2300UT, I was surprised to hear the traditional English Service of the Voice of Turkey on 5960 kHz instead of the TRT World Television Audio, with the male announcer explicitly introducing the broadcast with a "We're back". Program contents are once again the mixture of news reports as well as cultural features and Turkish musical selections. I haven't seen any for- mal announcements of the reversal so it's probably worth checking 5960 kHz for the rest of the hour and 6125 kHz at 0400 UT. Just a heads-up ! All the best, John, Central Florida". (Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and wor Febr 17) It so happens that at the very same time, 2300 UT Feb 19, PBS Create channel features a Rick Steves' Europe [sic] episode on Istanbul ! which is much more informative. At least on OETA-3 in OK, repeats at 0300 & 1000 UT on Febr 20: "Where Europe comes face to face with Asia,we'll explore the fascinating, multilayered city of Istanbul. We'll lose our way in the Grand Bazaar and feast like kings with locals at a fisherman's wharf. We'll follow the fall of the Byzantium and the rise of Islam at the city's ancient wall, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. To escape the city bustle, we'll board a boat on the churning Bosphorus, make friends over backgammon, and try a traditional bath." But we often wonder if old travelogs like this would hold up today, this one (C) 2008; one can guess by how young Rick may look. WRTH 2025 skips Turkey, International sexion page #588 going from THAILAND to UKRAINE ! WRTH 2024 still had it with Spanish section at 1730 UT on 9495 kHz, English on 9660 kHz. And indeed simul_Spanish is still on 9495 kHz. O, there it is in 2025 WRTH: page #586, Tuerkiye alfabetized between Switzerland and Taiwan. I don't think U-umlaut falls before A even in German. USA Important Notice: On Thursday, February 20, Florida Power and Light Company will be connecting new transformers for WRMI Okeechobee-FL state. This is the end of a months-long process to replace the station's original transformers, which date from the late 1970's. The new transformers have been installed, and this should provide more reliable electrical power and fewer power outages. However, on February 20 FP&L will have to remove the old transformers using a crane, and then connect the new transformers to us. This is a lengthy process requiring a lot of equipment and personnel, so they told us to expect to be without power from approximately 1300-2200UT During this time we will be off the air on all frequencies, except possib- ly 7730 kHz and our 9955 kHz live stream We will return to the air on all frequencies as soon as the work is finished.
