A radio station in northern China began broadcasting information about the current situation on Arctic waterways to ensure the safety of naviga- tion, Xinhua reported on Tuesday. It is noted that the radio station, located in the city of Tianjin in northern China, began broadcasting on Monday. The station, using satel- lite data, transmits information on ice thickness and weather forecasts in the Bering Strait, Dmitry Laptev Strait, Vilkitsky Strait, and the Kara Gate Strait. Radio broadcasting will be conducted every year from July 1 to October 31 for single-sideband radiotelephones. The agency notes that the launch of radio broadcasts will help fill the gap in information about maritime safety on Arctic shipping routes, thereby ensuring safe navigation for Chinese ships. 1prime.ru (Anatoly Klepov-RUS, RUSdx #1297 via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 7) CHINA XSQ Guangzhou Radio, 12577kHz (DSC system) P/D e-QSL letter in two months. (Vatican News, July 5) European Private Shortwave Stations. The radio station was headed for many years as chairman (editor) by Proto- presbyter Boris Alekseevich Bobrinsky or Father Boris (1925-2020). In the first letter received from the station at the beginning of 1991, I was thanked for my "wonderful letter" and greeted on behalf of Father Boris, who asked me to tell you that my letter brought him and all the staff of the "Voice of Orthodoxy" great joy. QSL was not sent to my report, because (quote) "unfortunately, we are not part of the QSL card system." But they sent a parcel - two books, one of them an Orthodox calendar-month- words. The letter described the broadcasting history of the station and indicated the release of the first program in August 1981 (not in 1979), and "they began broadcasting regularly in October 1981, 15 minutes a week" (quote). The next letter came in 1993 from St. Petersburg from the Orthodox mission of St. Anastasia, where there was then a representative office of the "Voice of Orthodoxy" in Russia, which gradually "grew" into the new radio station "Grad Petrov", which began broadcasting on November 18, 2000. Kalenderwoche 47.HAM RADIO Messe Friedrichshafen ging mit dem Fazit von 11.300 Besuchern zu Ende. Auf ein Wiedersehen zur 48. HAM RADIO. RRI, Radio Romania International, one of the world’s largest DRM interna- tional broadcasters, and Radiocom, its network operator, have signifi- cantly enhanced and optimized their DRM transmission signal this week. This was achieved by upgrading the configuration of their DRM ContentSer- ver head-end system with the help of Consortium member Fraunhofer IIS and STARWAVES. The technical enhancements include a switch to DRM’s default audio codec xHE-AAC and the addition of latest news in several languages via DRM’s Journaline advanced text feature. The configuration is rounded off by DRM TextMessages with DL+ tagging and graphical station logos. This upgrade will allow RadioRomaniaInternational and Radiocom to improve the quality and content offering as well as the presence and reach of their international shortwave broadcasts reaching many corners all over the world. The quick update with significant improvements of the DRM shortwave trans- missions from Tiganesti site (north of Bucharest) received sincerest thanks for the DRM unconditional support from the chief engineer for na- tional and international stations of Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corpora- tion, Mr Costin Trif. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini signed the new Law on Slovak Television and Slovak Radio. This means that this law comes into force on July 1, 2024. Moreover, the president had previously stated that he would sign this law only if it did not contradict the Constitution. Thus, Peter Pellegrini considered that the said law adopted by the Slovak Parliament does not contradict the Constitution of the Slovak Republic. According to the new law, public (state) Slovak television and Radio Rozhlas a televizia Slovenska - RTVS now has a new name - Slovenska tele- vizia a rozhlas - STVR. According to the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia, which proposed the renam- ing, the old name did not reflect Slovak statehood. Instead of the adjec- tive "Slovak", denoting the state- forming nation, the name Slovakia is used in the new name. The RTVE Board of Directors has unanimously approved the purchase, in- stallation, and implementation of a new shortwave transmitter. This is the first of five new transmitters that Radio Exterior de España (REE) urgently needs to guarantee the continuity of this public service. The new transmitters will replace the current equipment, which has far ex- ceeded its useful life and whose frequent breakdowns put the continuity of shortwave broadcasts at risk. They will be responsible for carrying the shortwave signal to West Africa, the Middle East, North America, and South America. With this decision, RTVE fulfills its public service obligation set out in the Framework Mandate and in Law 17/2006 of June 5, which establishes that the Corporation must "aim to serve the widest audience, ensuring maximum continuity and geographic and social coverage, with the commitment to offer quality, diversity, innovation, and ethical standards." This is a great advance that ensures the continuity of REE's public sce to Spaniards who are outside our borders and to foreigners interested in Spain. This commitment by the Corporation comes after years of uncertain- ty. In 2014, the closure of REE's shortwave was implemented for a few months. It was in 2018 that an eight-hour daily shortwave broadcast was achieved again. REE's shortwave carries the voice and vision of Spain to the entire world. For this reason, the director of the station, Luis Manuel Fernandez Iglesias, has advocated in his speech before the RTVE Board of Directors to "involve the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture of Spain in the future of Radio Exterior, both in the design of its programming and in the financing of this public international broadcaster, such as REE." As seen in the invasion of Ukraine, shortwave escapes control and censor- ship, guaranteeing the democratic right to truthful and honest information. Another advantage is its free nature for listeners and the low cost and investment needed for its reception anywhere. These circumstances make it very attractive, especially for fishermen, merchant seamen, missionaries, or Spanish volunteers who carry out their work where the internet signal does not reach. Fewer and fewer FM receivers are still in use in Switzerland. SSR will therefore be decommissioning its obsolete FM antennas by the end of the year. Around ten years ago, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM), private radio stations and the SRG began working closely together to plan the transition from FM to DAB+. The predictions made at the time - that DAB+ would become the new radio standard - have been borne out: the proportion of people who listen to radio exclusively via FM has now stagnated at less than 10%. From 2020, the industry will no longer be obliged to broadcast radio pro- grammes using this technology, and maintaining three // broadcasting tech- nologies is costly. The SRG Board of Directors has therefore decided to stop broadcasting SRG radio programmes via the now obsolete FM antennas on 31 December 2024.
